Educational Technician Position Overview Educational Technicians provide support services to the teachers and students learning in and out of the classroom through implementing a variety of techniques. Educational technicians provide supportive educational services to credentialed personnel. Work is performed under the supervision of the Head of School. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Work with individual students or small groups of students to review and reinforce learning previously introduced by the classroom teacher/content specialist under the supervision of the classroom teacher/content specialist. Review individualised education plans (IEPs), 504 plans, and personal learning plans (PLPs) to understand required accommodations and modifications. Assist the teacher/content specialist in devising strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on the students’ individualised educational plans, needs, interests and abilities. Work with a learner‑centred philosophy and act as a team player with educators and content specialists. Exhibit a professional, positive attitude that contributes to a culture of community and student support and accountability. Provide individual and group services in a variety of settings and models. Establish an effective rapport with children, parents, and staff. Effectively communicate orally and in writing with a wide variety of people. Collaborate as a member of an IEP, 504, PLP or other student‑centered team. Maintain composure in stressful situations. Motivate students to succeed and engage in learning. Help students study daily learning material, design activity plans, support teachers by grading papers, and assist with department‑wide administrative duties. Attend orientation and training as required. Follow specific procedures outlined by behaviour intervention plans. Assist with other duties (e.g., lunch duty, filling in as a substitute) as assigned by the Head of School. Other Functions (Legal and Ethical Duties) Maintain confidentiality related to all aspects of student performance and records. Demonstrate respect for the legal and human rights of students. Meet and follow all laws and regulations at the state and federal levels. Follow health and safety procedures established by the school. Arrive and depart punctually, notifying appropriate personnel about absences and coverage. Demonstrate loyalty, dependability, integrity, and other ethical standards. Follow the chain of command for various administrative procedures for student or programme concerns. Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required) Hold a high school diploma or GED. Currently hold State of Maine teacher certification and/or obtain and maintain authorisation as an Educational Technician in accordance with Chapter115 of the Maine Department of Education. Willingness to participate in ongoing in‑service activities in the speciality area of employment. Required certifications, endorsements and/or licences: 021‑EdTechI, or any teacher endorsement, specialist certificate or administrator certificate. Possess working knowledge of disabilities and special education methods. Ability to communicate orally and in written format and to perform requested work. Ability to read, understand policies, procedures and related information; and to provide and follow verbal or written instructions. Skills and proficiencies for basic computer utilisation. Must pass/have a current CHRC certificate through the Maine Department of Education (MDOE) and maintain a clear criminal history for the duration of employment. Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions. The usual methods of performing the job’s functions include mental and emotional stability, moderate noise level and the physical ability to perform all necessary upper and lower body movement.
