Emergency Department Technician

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Physician provides direct care to patients in the Emergency Department.

• Performs urgent and emergent care procedures including EKGs, wound care, vital sign monitoring, IV initiation, phlebotomy procedures and codes.
• Monitors patient condition and performs data collection. Communicates findings and patient condition to primary Registered Nurse (RN).
• Applies, modifies and removes casts, traction appliances, and soft goods under written orders of attending physician. Assists physicians with these procedures as needed.
• Maintains accurate documentation in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
• Orders and stocks unit supplies of all types needed for patient care and locating shared equipment within the Hospital.
• Assists with the mobilization, ambulation and transport of patients.

• Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
• Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
• Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
• Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
• Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
• Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
• Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
• Complies with established organization and department policies.
• Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

• Required Credential(s):
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
• Preferred Credential(s):
  • Emergency Medical Tech credentialed from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).
  • One or more of the following: certified nursing assistant, certified medical assistant, or certified EMT paramedic preferred.

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
