You will feel like family instead of just a number. This is a full‑time position. Recruitment Incentives $1,000.00 to $5,000.00 paid over a 1‑year period (new or lateral hires). The incentive is paid in two parts: half upon hire, remainder upon completion of 12‑month probation. Relocation incentives, referral bonuses, tuition reimbursement and student loan repayments available to qualified candidates. County Pay Incentives Intermediate POST 2.5% of monthly base salary Advanced POST 5% of monthly base salary AA/AS Degree $175.00 per month BA/BS Degree $275.00 per month Benefits The county offers an extensive benefits package including CalPERS retirement, medical, dental, vision, life insurance and flexible spending accounts. Nevada County is a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program through the Department of Education. CalPERS Public Safety Retirement System Tier I 3% @ 50 Tier II 3% @ 55 Tier III PEPRA 2.7% @ 57 Duties Patrol assigned areas in a vehicle, boat, UTV, or on foot and answer calls for protection of life and property. Conduct preliminary investigations, interrogate witnesses, collect evidence, and take statements in connection with suspected criminal activities; substantiate findings of fact in court. Assist and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in investigations and arrests; maintain departmental files and records. When assigned to contract city/town, investigate and document traffic collisions, apprehend and arrest persons driving under the influence, and perform routine traffic law enforcement. Perform jailer and/or bailiff duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum age 21 years as of January 1, 2022. High school graduation or equivalent. Completion of at least 30 units of college education desired from accredited college/university. Valid driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Proof of either A) Completion of POST basic training within six (6) years if never employed as a peace officer or three (3) years if previously employed; or B) Completion of POST basic requalification within a three‑year break of employment and possession of a valid POST Basic certificate. U.S. citizen or applied for citizenship at least one year prior to application. Pass psychological evaluation, medical examination, and background investigation. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Mobility and strength to reach, bend, grasp, climb and run; strength and agility to restrain people alone or with assistance while wearing required equipment; lift or maneuver people weighing more than 165 pounds; ability to sit for extended periods in a patrol vehicle; manual dexterity to operate restraints, firearms, standard office equipment, radio, and telephone controls; vision sufficient for firearms certification; speech and hearing to communicate in person, by telephone, and radio.
