Utility/Mover - Mon-Fri 6am-2pm

Overview

The Utility/Mover IV performs a broad range of relocation, utility, and general maintenance activities throughout the Institute. This position coordinates and executes the movement of office furniture, laboratory equipment, files, boxes, and other materials while supporting daily Utility work orders and minor repairs. The role requires basic mechanical and construction skills, the ability to safely operate moving equipment and a 16-foot box truck, and the ability to use a variety of hand and power tools. The Utility/Mover IV works closely with end users, Facilities staff, and other trades to coordinate schedules, complete work efficiently, and provide responsive customer service. The position is expected to work independently, maintain accurate work records through the CMMS system, uphold high safety standards, and assist with on-call coverage and other Facilities needs as assigned.

• Coordinate and perform the relocation of office furniture, laboratory equipment, boxes, files, and other materials in collaboration with the Relocation and Utility departments.
• Coordinate move schedules and logistics with end users, Facilities staff, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient completion of moves.
• Operate a 16-foot box truck to transport materials between Institute locations and offsite facilities throughout Southern New Hampshire and Massachusetts; maintain a clean driving record and required Class D license.
• Complete and document work orders, time records, preventive maintenance, and other required information using the CMMS system via tablet or computer.
• Maintain the relocation shop, equipment, and tools in a safe, clean, and operational condition.
• Assist the Utility Shop with daily work orders, minor repairs, and general maintenance throughout the Institute, including minor mechanical work, floor and ceiling tile replacement, lamp replacement, coat hooks, door stops, cove base, and minor carpentry.
• Assist Senior Movers and other trades with moving and maintenance activities as needed, using appropriate tools and following established safety and personal protection requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned and participate in on-call responsibilities as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Basic mechanical and construction knowledge, including minor carpentry, repairs, ceiling and floor tile installation, cove base, and use of hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of moving equipment, procedures, safe lifting techniques, and methods for safely transporting furniture, equipment, boxes, and other materials.
• Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and practices to protect people, property, data, equipment, and the institution.
• Ability to operate, assemble, install, align, and perform basic maintenance or repairs on office furniture, equipment, and building components.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, sequence, and coordinate daily work in accordance with established procedures and schedules.
• Self-motivated and dependable, with the initiative and judgment to work independently, identify needs, and complete assignments efficiently.
• Sufficient manual dexterity and physical ability to safely operate tools and moving equipment and perform the essential functions of the position.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen, comprehend instructions, interact professionally with staff and the public, and collaborate effectively with other trades and Facilities staff.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• High school graduate. Trade school graduate preferred.
• Light construction experience required.
• Experience pertaining to building utility system operations and relocation activities.
• Class D driver’s license.

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.
