What You Will Do
- Understands water room equipment operation and function; completes testing and follows up appropriately on abnormal results and completes required documentation.
- Completes dialysis treatments, initiation and discontinuation from internal accesses, monitoring of vascular access function and appropriately reports signs of stenosis, occlusion or infection to RN.
- Assembles and prepares necessary treatment supplies, rinses and primes dialyzer and attaches and installs all required tubing according to unit procedure. Test and set parameters according to dialysis prescription.
- Monitors equipment for safe and proper functioning, respond to alarms, and make appropriate adjustments; including blood flow rates and fluid removal rates
- Completes accurate documentation of dialysis access and patient treatment.
- Observes patient during treatments, notifies RN of any adverse reactions. Responds to dialysis –related emergencies, immediately seeking assistance from RN.
- Provides technical assistance to nurses and readily follows direction from nurses for hemodialysis treatments.
- Participates in collaboration with patients, family, physicians, other nursing staff and all ancillary departments.
Essential Qualifications
- High School or GED Equivalent
- Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) - Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) within 1-1/2 Yrs or
- Certified Hemodialysis Technologist/Technician (CHT) - Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology (BONENT) within 1-1/2 Yrs
- Dialysis experience or healthcare experience
