The Codex team plays a key role in changing how software gets built and who can build it. The team is a fast‑moving group that works across research, engineering, product, and design to build an AI software engineer – one you can pair with, delegate to, or ask to tackle future tasks proactively. About The Role OpenAI’s Codex product designers create tools that are intuitive, beautiful, and push the limits of what is possible. This role is based in San Francisco, CA and follows a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is offered to new employees. In This Role, You Will Contribute to the overall design and product direction of OpenAI products. Design and ship high‑quality products and improvements, from early concepts to high‑fidelity prototypes and visuals. Partner closely with engineering, product management, research, and design peers to define both long‑term strategy and short‑term tactics. Engage in user research to better understand our users – software developers – and refine our products. Contribute to and evolve our design system. Help establish our design culture and grow our team. You Might Thrive In This Role If You Bring a strong technical background and have recently shipped code to production. Are deeply motivated by making coding agents intuitive and accessible, and expanding access to who can build software. Have 3+ years of experience shipping larger scale software products. Have a portfolio showcasing strong UX, UI, and interaction design skills, with a high bar for quality and craft. Enjoy 0 → 1 environments, navigate ambiguity, and bring crisp design thinking to technical trade‑offs. Get excited about being immersed in the AI research process and defining how AI‑first products should look and behave. Possess impactful communication and storytelling skills. Bonus If You Have Prior experience with research or developer‑focused products or workflows. Have shipped side projects with AI or contributed to open‑source AI tools.
