Trauma Intensivist
The Trauma Division at Cooper University Health Care, is home to one of only three New Jersey State-Designated Level I Trauma Centers verified by the American College of Surgeons. The Division is seeking a full-time Trauma Intensivist who is Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine. This role is responsible for the triage, diagnosis, and comprehensive management of critically ill and injured trauma patients, with a focus on preventing secondary complications and delivering high-quality, evidence-based critical care. The physician will provide specialized expertise in the treatment and support of patients with severe traumatic injuries, multiple organ dysfunction, and other life-threatening conditions requiring intensive care.

The Trauma Intensivist will have experience preparing patients for emergency surgical procedures and assisting surgeons during operative interventions, as appropriate. Responsibilities include administering and managing emergency medications, coordinating patient care among primary physicians, critical care nurses, ancillary staff, and consulting specialists, and collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary teams including dietitians, social workers, nursing students, and other healthcare professionals. The Trauma Intensivist will also play a key role in guiding complex clinical decision-making, utilizing advanced critical care technologies and procedures, and counseling patients and families regarding prognosis, advance directives, and end-of-life care.
The physician will provide professional medical services in a compassionate, patient-centered manner and ensure continuity of care by following patients across care settings or facilitating appropriate referrals when needed. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate and timely medical records, as well as preparing and completing all required reports, billing documentation, claims, and professional correspondence in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
The successful candidate must hold an MD degree and be Board Certified. Must obtain NJ Medical License.
Provide consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons. Ensure personal qualities such as emotional stability, dependability, positive relations with community staff, adherence to ethical standards, eliciting cooperation, attendance/participation in clinic meetings and peer councils.
Physician's work schedule will be established by Division Head, which includes weekend, night, holiday, and on-call periods. The work schedule shall be designed to meet the medical needs of patients in a professional, competent and timely manner.
