Description: The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) population predominantly includes patients with multi-system failure and co-morbid conditions. Common diagnoses in this unit include sepsis, pneumonia, gastrointestinal bleed, and organ failure. We have recently opened a 28-bed intensive care unit across two units, staffed by the MICU team. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:2 during the day shift. Nurses are expected to work 36 or 48 hours per week, with every other weekend and every other holiday. Requests for time off around major holidays cannot be accommodated. BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory. Nurses must adhere to the facility's float policy. Candidates may submit applications even if their state license is pending. Level 1 experience is required for this position. Candidates should have experience with Epic electronic health records. Skills required include: Acute Kidney Injury management Arterial line management Chest tube insertion and removal assistance BiPAP and CPAP management Blood product administration Care of ventilated patients Central line care and management Central Venous Pressure monitoring Continuous IV sedation Infection prevention Interpretation of arterial blood gases Management of dysrhythmias Respiratory failure management Ventilator management And more. The unit is supported by interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Special procedures performed include: CVC placements Alines CRRT Diagnostic procedures and more. This role requires a commitment to patient care in a high-acuity environment. A BSN is preferred. Verification of nursing credentials is required prior to employment.
