Job Duties Under direction, the Pharmacist compounds and dispenses pharmaceutical drugs, medicines, and prescriptions, and provides direct consultative services to health care professionals and patients regarding drug therapy. Examples of Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of Pharmaceutical arithmetic, chemistry, materia‑medica, and pharmacology Pharmaceutical manufacturing methods Federal and State laws relative to dispensing and use of narcotics, poisons and drugs Principles and methods for curriculum and training design; instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects Ability to Compound a wide variety of drugs and medicines Assimilate and provide information on drugs and their actions Advise and consult with medical and nursing staff regarding the properties of drug substances Counsel patients regarding use, possible side effects, and storage of medication Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and patients Conduct drug research and drug utilization studies Prepare and maintain accurate reports and records Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid license as a Registered Pharmacist issued by the State of California Board of Pharmacy. General Qualifications Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain such required license(s) may be cause for disciplinary action in accordance with Civil Service Rules. Formula Rate Examination (Weighted 100%) All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut‑off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination. This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience. The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job. All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by e‑mail. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
