Postdoctoral Fellow, Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics The Laurie J. Girand Center for Biomedical Ethics at Stanford University School of Medicine (GCBE) announces a post-doctoral fellowship position in the Stanford Training Program in Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) Research and at the Center for Integration of Research on Genetics and Ethics (CIRGE). One postdoctoral fellowship position is available as part of the program. The position is contingent on renewal of NIH funding. Job Description As the postdoctoral fellow, you will conduct independent research on ethical, legal, and social considerations arising from genetics and genomics. You will work closely with program faculty, participate in an interdisciplinary community (faculty and fellows from this program and affiliated programs), and gain practical experience through the Stanford Benchside Ethics Consultation Service, a research ethics consultation program, teaching, and optional participation in Stanford-affiliated clinical ethics consultation services. You will have access to a full range of courses at Stanford, including genetics, bioethics, social science, humanities, and law courses. The program will assist you in developing an individualized curriculum and career strategies. All trainees are expected to present their research at scholarly venues. The fellowship provides a stipend, tuition coverage, health insurance, and travel support for one meeting per year. Responsibilities Conduct independent research on ethical, legal, and social considerations in genetics and genomics. Participate in interdisciplinary community activities with faculty and fellows. Engage in professional activities such as the Benchside Ethics Consultation Service, research ethics consultations, teaching, and optional clinical ethics consults. Present research findings at scholarly venues. Qualifications PhD or MD (JD or Master’s degree not accepted). U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Background in social science, ethics, philosophy, history, health services research, public policy, or related disciplines. Eligibility for funding from NIH National Human Genome Research Institute.
