Position Overview Position Summary: The college of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking a qualified candidate to teach as a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Spanish. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Review of applications will begin immediately; position will remain open until filled. Start date is January 2027. This is a residential appointment, and campus presence is required. Requirements Responsibilities include a 4/4 teaching load covering 1000- and 2000-level foundational Spanish courses and various upper-division courses, which may be offered in-person, hybrid, or online. The incumbent will serve the institution and remain active in the profession by maintaining a consistent record of scholarly research, including publications and presentations in peer-reviewed venues, and will mentor student research, attend regularly and predictably, and perform other duties as assigned. 4/4 teaching load, scholarship, and service. Teaching load will include 1000- and 2000-level foundational Spanish courses in addition to a variety of upper-division courses. Courses may be offered in-person, hybrid, or online. Serve the institution and remain active in the profession by maintaining a consistent record of scholarly research that includes publications and presentations in peer-reviewed venues. Mentorship of student research. Regular and predictable attendance required. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Job Requirements: Ph.D. in Spanish required (ABD considered). Second language acquisition. Expertise in, but not limited to, one or more of the following fields: Latin American literature, translation/interpretation, Latin American culture and civilization. Experience in linguistics and/or study abroad programs is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Commitment to teaching excellence with a strong generalist academic background. Ability to work effectively in a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions: Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
