Registered Nurse II, DPIC Poison Control Center Helpline

Receive and respond to telephone inquiries involving poisonings, toxic exposures, medication questions, and related concerns Obtain comprehensive case histories using interviewing and assessment techniques Evaluate the nature and severity of toxic exposures using evidence-based resources, calculations, clinical guidelines, and toxicology references Develop and communicate treatment recommendations to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and emergency personnel Provide drug information including medication identification, indications, contraindications, dosage, administration, and safety information Document calls, consultations, assessments, recommendations, and follow-up activities in electronic systems Conduct follow-up assessments to evaluate patient outcomes and ensure appropriate care recommendations Support poison prevention initiatives and public health education efforts Participate in clinical toxicology reviews, continuing education, and professional development Assist with orientation, training, and education of students, interns, or staff Maintain compliance with departmental protocols, regulatory standards, and customer service expectations Support a 24/7 medical toxicology, public health, and drug information service Requirements Associate/Diploma-prepared RN from an ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited institution 2+ years of experience for Associate/Diploma-prepared RNs 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline Active Ohio RN License Foreign graduates must have license validated through TruMerit™ per Ohio Board of Nursing code May be required to obtain other state licensure Rotating shifts supporting a 24/7 operation Availability for 8-, 10-, and 12-hour shifts, including first shift, second shift, and occasional overnight coverage Work 60 weekend hours within a six-week scheduling period Participate in a holiday rotation, including 50% of major holidays Preferred: Emergency Department experience Preferred: Intensive Care Unit experience Preferred: Interest in toxicology, poison prevention, and public health If hired without a BSN or MSN, enroll in a BSN or MSN program within 1 year of hire/RN job date and complete it within 5 years Preferred: BSN from an ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited institution or MSN Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in clinical toxicology, including assessment and treatment recommendations for toxic exposures, while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and providing drug information.
