Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Food Scientist/Technologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Food Science, Chemistry, Dairy Science or Engineering with previous research experience. Previous protein functionality work with emphasis on dairy proteins is preferred.
Duties
- Plan and conduct experiments that measure the functional properties of commercial and experimental milk protein powders.
- Plan and conduct sensory or instrument-based textural analysis of commercial and new milk protein crisps.
- Write, modify and maintain laboratory procedures used for measuring protein functional properties and protein crisp texture.
- Interpret results and findings using basic statistical techniques.
- Disseminate findings through written summaries/progress reports and/or weekly meetings.
- Supplement method development and experimental planning by reviewing scientific literature.
- Test and propose new applications for milk protein powders and milk protein crisps based on experimental results, developed model systems, and literature findings.
- Assist in pilot and plant trials with primary focus on analyzing and reporting observed functionalities, texture, and possible product applications.
- Maintain and build onto the existing research laboratory
- Assists in analyzing milk protein powders to be approved for distribution or to be used in internal processes
- Collaborate with other departments on projects to ensure relevancy and practicality of work.
Experience
- MS degree in a Technical/relevant field (e.g. Food Science, Chemistry, Dairy Science, Engineering, etc.) or a BS degree in a technical field (e.g. Food Science, Chemistry, Dairy Science, Engineering, etc.) with previous research experience.
- Previous protein functionality work with emphasis on dairy proteins is preferred.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective reporting and teamwork.
