LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE 2

Job Summary The Nevada Department of Veterans Services, Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City, Nevada is recruiting for a Licensed Practical Nurse 2. This position provides direct nursing care to residents on an assigned neighborhood. The nurse administers medication and completes therapeutic procedures, provides specialized nursing wound care, participates in the MDS/Care Planning process, and communicates with neighborhood staff, residents, families, visitors, and the treatment team. Essential Qualifications Contribute to the assessment of patient health status by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data; observe condition changes and sign deviations; participate in developing written care plans. Assist in carrying out therapeutic procedures that provide emotional and physical comfort; maintain safety, health, and well‑being of individuals; assist in restraining patients who are a threat, following facility procedures; notify and document actions. Administer medications as prescribed, ensuring correct route; count controlled medications; monitor for side effects; observe effectiveness; notify personnel and document. Document nurse progress notes in medical charts; review charts for changes in orders; prepare reports; assist with quality improvement activities such as auditing charts; ensure regulatory standards are met. Provide emergency medical treatment such as CPR and first aid; complete accident and incident reports. Prepare and maintain medical treatment rooms; order and stock medical and related supplies. Provide prescribed education to patients and families; give health related education to staff. Assist patients with activities of daily living; encourage independence; supervise therapeutic interventions; serve as a positive role model. May delegate to auxiliary personnel; may schedule and transport patients; coordinate clinics; conduct screening tests; give immunization injections; create and maintain records. Perform related duties as assigned. Job Duties Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, including one year providing nursing care in a correctional setting, individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities, or patients in a hospital or skilled nursing facility. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of theory and practice of practical nursing in mental health, developmental disabilities, correctional or skilled nursing settings. Knowledge of nursing principles and therapeutic interventions for chronic or acute conditions, mental illness, and developmental disabilities. Knowledge of commonly prescribed medications, side effects, and interactions. Knowledge of quality assurance compliance activities and applicable regulatory standards. Knowledge of routine laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures. Ability to recognize and respond to hostile and combative behavior. Ability to provide health education to patients and families. Ability to provide emergency medical treatment as required. Ability to recognize and report changes in condition. Ability to delegate appropriate assignments to subordinate staff. Certifications and Required Experience CPR certification required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Basic Life Support certification required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. State of Nevada/FBI background check required. Pre‑employment screening for controlled substances required for certain positions.
