Director, Benefits – Role Overview Lead the Employee Benefits function, acting as the subject‑matter expert and partnering with leaders across the US, Canada, and EMEA to design, implement, and manage a competitive, compliant benefits strategy that supports organizational goals. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership in the design, development, implementation, administration, and communication of all company benefits, wellness, and leave programs. Collaborate with HR, Finance, and business partners to set benefit strategy and budget, driving process efficiencies and aligning offerings to employee needs. Partner with benefit vendors, brokers, and carriers to evaluate, select, and manage relationships, monitoring service levels, costs, utilization, and metrics. Lead benefit education and communication efforts, developing strategies to inform employees about paid time off, financial savings, and leave programs. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and global laws governing benefits practices, including ERISA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, Form 5500, nondiscrimination testing, and audits. Oversee leave program administration, ensuring policies and procedures comply with regulations and are clearly communicated to staff. Coordinate with the HR Business Partner team on complex or escalated leave situations and collaborate with internal SOX and IT teams to maintain SOX compliance. Maintain compliance with privacy/HIPAA and other legal and regulatory requirements, handling other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and applicable work experience. Strong preference for PHR, SPHR, or other HR‑related certifications. Minimum 12 years of progressive experience designing, implementing, and measuring global employee benefit programs that support business objectives. At least 5 years of experience leading employee benefits teams. Deep knowledge of self‑funded insurance plans, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, ADA, workers’ compensation, unemployment, disability, financial savings, and paid time off programs across multiple states and globally. Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications. Excellent verbal and written communication, strategic thinking, planning and facilitation skills, and business acumen to present and influence senior leaders. Strong data analysis capabilities and the ability to produce clear written or graphical reports. Problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify and implement effective solutions. Facilitation experience for both large and small group meetings and conflict resolution. Positive, discreet approach to confidentiality and a collaborative mindset for cross‑functional project teams. Strong project management skills. Experience in a fast‑paced medical device, biotech, or pharmaceutical environment is preferred. Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: $175,000 – $205,000 annually, varying by experience and location. Additional compensation may include annual bonuses and a robust benefits package, including medical, dental, vision (effective day one), health savings accounts, and flexible spending accounts. Paid time: 11 holidays per year, unlimited PTO, and eligibility for a 401(k) plan with company match and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
