The TeamHertz Associates work across the foundation and make significant contributions in Global Health, Global Development, Global Policy & Advocacy, Global Growth and Opportunity, Gender Equality, US Program, Operations and Finance. Working closely with their managers and teams, they support the management of existing grants, shaping and processing of new grants and grantee reports, and other research and analysis activities in support of the team’s strategy, goals and objectives. As a group, Hertz Associates are also offered career and personal development opportunities, including engaging with executive leadership from across the foundation.

Your Role

Hertz Associates will be assigned to work on specific teams or projects for a fixed duration.

• Assist with the management of a portfolio of grants including: support grantees through handling monitoring and evaluation components, manage internal processes, portfolio progress, documentation, budget information and reporting.

• Facilitate, coordinate and manage a range of projects and activities related to evaluating, developing, preparing, and monitoring specific grants, and/or other team activities.

• Provide ongoing research, background information, and analytical support for program management including drafting new proposals, coordinating convenings, writing briefs, conducting literature reviews, and analyzing data.

• Participate in meetings, coordinate programmatic input and write and review briefs to prepare Foundation Leadership for high-profile events.

• Undertake and lead special projects as needed.

• This role is responsible for high quality interactions and clear and consistent communications within the foundation and with grantees and partners in the field.

  Examples of past internship projects:

  
  Global Health Internship:

  • Landscaped the opportunities for noninvasive diagnosis of malaria and created a research and development agenda to move such tools forward.

  • Characterization of colostrum and evaluation of approaches to synthesize the various essential components for infants who do not have access to healthy breast milk.

  • Develop a research and development agenda for new tools and approaches to study the microbiome, with a special focus on the effects of malnutrition and infection.

    Agricultural Development Internship:

    • Developed mathematical model of the spread of crop pathogens affecting cassava, an essential cultivar in many countries.

    • Analysis and modeling of the impact of nitrogen fixation trait in different cultivars and agricultural conditions.

        Your Experience:

        Successful associates are often self-starters that are comfortable with a degree of ambiguity.         • Hertz Fellows enrolled in a PhD program with at least one school term of enrollment remaining after the summer.

        • Works independently, manages multiple priorities and tight timelines.

        • Demonstrated ability to succeed in a complex, fast-paced environment.

        • Strong analytical skills as well as strong written & oral communication skills.

        • Ability to identify and develop external and internal relationships in support of program work.

        • Attention to detail in writing and proofing material, tracking and managing projects and grants.

          Must have unrestricted work authorization in the country where this position is located .

          The annualized salary for this role is $139,800.00 USD. We recognize high-wage market differences in Seattle and Washington, D.C., where our offices are located . As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission.
