Maintenance Technician

Garner Foods is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Maintenance Technician on Night Shift to support the reliable operation of production equipment and facility systems. This role performs routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment adjustments to minimize downtime and support safe, efficient production operations.

The Maintenance Technician plays an important role in supporting equipment reliability, production flow, employee safety, food safety, product integrity, and operational readiness in a food manufacturing environment.

What You'll Do

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, controls, and operational equipment issues.
• Use assembly drawings, P&IDs, manuals, VFDs, PLCs, and equipment documentation to support troubleshooting and repairs.
• Perform routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment adjustments, and facility maintenance tasks.
• Work with production equipment, packaging machinery, automated conveyor systems, pumps, sensors, gauges, flow meters, and related systems.
• Use CMMS/work order systems, preferably Limble, to document work, preventive maintenance, parts usage, and equipment notes.
• Support production by assisting with equipment troubleshooting, production needs, and basic equipment problem-solving.
• Maintain clean, orderly, and GMP-compliant work areas, tools, and repair practices.
• Follow company policies, GMP, SQF, HACCP, PPE, Lockout/Tagout, machine guarding, environmental, and maintenance safety expectations.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, unresolved issues, food safety concerns, or other risks immediately.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Maintenance Technician is technically skilled, safety-minded, reliable, and able to troubleshoot equipment issues with urgency while following procedures and protecting food safety, employee safety, equipment integrity, and production readiness.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in food processing with expertise in troubleshooting and repairing production equipment with sophisticated control systems.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow verbal, written, computer-based, technical, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Ability to use CMMS/work order systems and required documentation tools accurately.
• Ability to work in a wet, non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, lift, and carry as required during the assigned shift.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and assigned shifts as needed.
• Ability to wear required PPE correctly.
• Ability to complete required safety, food safety, maintenance, equipment-specific, LOTO, machine guarding, PPE, and job-specific training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical certifications such as HVAC, PLC, Electrician, Robotics, Automotive, or related field.
• Working knowledge of GMP, FDA, SQF, HACCP, sanitation, food safety, and food defense expectations.
• Knowledge of mechanical and pneumatic flow, packaging machinery, robotics-related equipment, and machine operating and adjustment procedures.
• Experience identifying and troubleshooting pumps, automated conveyors, PLC programs, VFDs, sensors, gauges, and production equipment.
• Basic skills in plumbing, metalworking, and general facilities/building maintenance.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, regulated food manufacturing environment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position works in a food manufacturing environment and may include exposure to wet floors, noise, moving equipment, automated systems, conveyors, pumps, electrical components, tools, production areas, and non-climate-controlled conditions. The role requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying during the assigned shift.
