Communications Specialist

The communications specialist will know the capabilities and operation of the communications center at Great Plains Health. Essential functions include:

• Communicating effectively and openly in operations activities.
• Demonstrating courtesy, diplomacy, and tact in interactions with internal and external customers.
• Operating well in stressful situations.
• Consistently demonstrating effective cooperative behavior with other members of the health care team.
• Strictly abiding by confidentiality guidelines and respecting patient privacy.
• Effectively monitoring and accurately following procedures in response to special equipment alarms including blood bank, pharmacy and medical gas alarms.
• Effectively alerting special medical, security, and safety response teams such as the Code Blue, Code Pink, Trauma Team Activation, Disaster Plans, Security, Fire and Bomb plan.
• Maintaining physician on-call schedules.
• Creating, updating, documenting and maintaining physician contact preference information.
• Answering phone calls and transferring phone calls.
• Communicating with every workforce member as necessary.
• Following hospital rules, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and standards including those that are established for safe patient care and prompt reporting of patient safety issues and errors.
