Apheresis Registered Nurse

Provide specialized apheresis nursing care to patients of the NIH Clinical Center, performing and monitoring therapeutic and donor apheresis procedures within the Department of Transfusion Medicine / Blood Services. The nurse operates apheresis equipment, manages vascular access, monitors patients for procedural reactions, and coordinates care with the multidisciplinary clinical team.

13 week contract with possible extensions.

M-F 7a to 5:30p (40 hours per week)

Weekend and holiday on-call required minimum one full weekend per month

$80,000 - $100,000 a year

We are seeking an experienced Apheresis Registered Nurse to provide specialized patient care at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs. Schedule Monday through Friday 40 hours per week Scheduled within the 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. operating window.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assess patients before, during, and after apheresis procedures
• Provide direct nursing care throughout therapeutic and blood-component collection procedures
• Operate and monitor apheresis equipment in accordance with established protocols
• Monitor patient status and respond promptly to adverse reactions, complications, or changes in condition
• Administer medications, replacement fluids, blood products, and other treatments as ordered and within the RN's authorized scope of practice
• Verify patient identity, orders, laboratory results, vascular access, and procedural readiness
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation
• Follow infection-control, blood-safety, patient-safety, and emergency-response procedures
• Educate patients and families regarding procedures, expected effects, and follow-up care
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
• Participate in required orientation, training, competency assessments, and on-call coverage
• Float to another unit when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN's demonstrated competency and scope of practice

Minimum Qualifications:

• Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth
• Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
• Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN
• Current Basic Life Support certification
• ACLS and PALS certifications if required by the client
• At least two years of current hospital-based apheresis experience
• Demonstrated current competency in apheresis nursing
• Ability to communicate effectively in English
• Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status

Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All required licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.

This position is contingent upon successful completion of all required pre-employment screenings, which may include a background check, drug test, physical examination, and respirator fit testing in accordance with contract and facility requirements.
