• Shift / Schedule: Nights, 3×12 Hours (18:45-07:15); 36 hours per week only

Job Summary

This is a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) travel/contract nursing position at a healthcare facility in Wilmington, NC, focused on cardiac step-down and vascular post-procedural care . The unit manages a broad range of complex cardiac and thoracic patient diagnoses and special procedures. Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, and may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, and contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients with diagnoses including Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, CAD, Aortic Stenosis/Regurgitation, Mitral Regurgitation/Stenosis, Endocarditis, Cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, Vasculitis, Carotid Stenosis, Venous Stasis, sheath management, and sheath removal
• Manage and interpret cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmias
• Perform and manage special procedures including CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman procedure), VATS, Carotid Endarterectomy, FEM-POP Bypass, Amputations, other vascular surgeries, cardiac surgeries, thoracic surgeries, general thoracic surgery, post-cath, post-DCCV, post-electrophysiology procedures, and pacemaker placements
• Operate and manage special equipment including Doppler, Bladder Scanner, EKG, Femoral Sheaths, TR Band, Fem-Stop, Chest Tubes, and Epicardial Pacing Wires
• Utilize unit systems including Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), and SBAR (communication)
• Adhere to patient ratios: 1:4 for surgical step-down, 1:5-6 for lower acuity (varies per acuity)
• Follow unit rotation for float assignments; not first to float
• Meet weekend requirement of 4 weekends per 4 weeks (flexible)
• Report to work during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters as part of Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignment

Education Requirements

• BLS & ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience on the cardiac floor required
• Traveler experience required unless the traveler has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Local candidates accepted

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Night shift: 18:45-07:15, 3×12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week only
• Patient ratios vary per acuity: 1:4 for surgical step-down; 1:5-6 for lower acuity
• Float requirement: will follow unit rotation - not first to float
• Weekend requirement: 4 per 4 weeks (flexible)
• Contract staff assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
• Mid-contract consolidation to Centralized Office may occur; contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed
• Scrubs: Navy
• Unit orientation: 24 hours
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Important Notes

• RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on unit could possibly result in contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
• Every candidate will be interviewed. Please provide interview availability for the next 72 hours at time of submission. Manager will not offer without speaking to the candidate first.
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
