Material Handler I

Job Summary Coordinates incoming and outgoing movement and storage of raw materials, finished products and parts. Responsibilities include warehousing, shop and delivery services to ensure material availability and delivery as needed to meet production schedules. Compiles data on order volume, production schedules and forecasts and applies statistical methods to estimate future materials requirements. Supports packing of base closures. Impact of the Role General Profile Works with clearly defined methods and tasks that are described in detail. Works under close supervision with little autonomy. Requires little or no prior relevant training or work experience. Performs manual tasks according to established procedures. Essential Functions Assists with manual duties related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing and delivering a variety of materials, equipment and supplies. Supports recording, counting, weighing, or measuring incoming or outgoing items to compare identifying information and variety against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records. Examines incoming shipments for damage or shortages and corresponds with shipper to rectify. Completes paperwork or forms required for documentation. Assists with gathering, verifying, weighing and packing items for shipment according to specifications and applicable transportation method. Operates material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to move stock or reorganize storage. Required Qualifications Required education and experience: High School Diploma/GED required and 0-3 years' experience OR equivalent combination of relevant education & or experience. Preferred Qualifications Preferred education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree. Knowledge, skills & abilities: Written communication skills. Ability to gather and document information. Ability to lift/move heavy objects. Mechanical knowledge. Safety knowledge. Physical Requirements Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. May need to stand for long periods of time. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery. May be requested to work a different shift. Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required. This position is Safety-Sensitive. Travel Requirements No or very little travel likely.
