Temporary Benefits Specialist

Our client, a global management consulting firm, is looking for a Temporary Benefits Specialist to support its U.S. benefits team through the upcoming open enrollment period. The ideal candidate will have strong U.S. benefits administration experience, excellent employee service skills, and hands-on experience supporting open enrollment.

This position starts ASAP and will last for about 4 months. The team is primarily based in Chicago, but this position is fully remote and open to candidates nationwide.

Location : Fully Remote – Open to all U.S. locations

Hours : Monday – Friday, standard business hours

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee benefit inquiries, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and leave programs
  • Provide timely, accurate, and empathetic support to employees and escalate complex issues as needed
  • Support the end-to-end annual open enrollment process, including employee communications, vendor coordination, enrollment administration, and post-enrollment audits
  • Partner with benefit carriers and vendors throughout the open enrollment period
  • Administer day-to-day benefit changes, including enrollments, qualifying life events, terminations, and billing reconciliation
  • Ensure accurate benefits data across HRIS, benefit administration platforms, and carrier systems
  • Partner with payroll and finance to research and resolve discrepancies
  • Support ACA reporting requirements, including Forms 1094-C and 1095-C, in partnership with payroll and HRIS
  • Maintain employee-facing benefits resources, FAQs, and job aids
  • Monitor service trends and identify opportunities to improve benefits processes and the employee experience
  • Assist with benefit plan reviews, benchmarking, vendor evaluations, and other benefits-related projects

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience administering U.S. benefits programs, including direct responsibility for employee service delivery and open enrollment
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. health and welfare benefit plans and the ability to clearly explain plan provisions to employees
  • Hands-on experience planning and executing open enrollment, including HRIS configuration, carrier file management, and employee communications
  • Experience handling complex employee benefits inquiries and escalations with professionalism and accuracy
  • Experience with benefits administration systems and HRIS platforms; Workday experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with ACA compliance and 1094-C/1095-C reporting requirements
  • Strong Excel skills with experience supporting data analysis and reconciliation
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a service-oriented approach
  • Experience supporting employees across multiple U.S. locations or within a multi-entity environment is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • CEBS, CBP, or other relevant benefits certification is a plus
