Job Title: Art Director, Data Visualization Location: Culver City, CA, Cupertino, CA, or New York City, NY Employment Type: W-2 Contract (6 months) Pay Rate: $120/hr (CUL), $120/hr (CUP), $125/hr (NYC) Summary We are seeking an Art Director, Data Visualization to craft innovative and compelling design solutions for data-driven storytelling, including infographics and editorial visual systems. This role focuses on developing clear, engaging design language for charts, graphs, and narrative visuals across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and strong visual designer with a background in data visualization or data journalism. This role partners closely with creative leads and cross-functional teams to deliver cohesive, high-impact design solutions while managing multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities Develop innovative data visualization and infographic design solutions Create visual systems and design languages for editorial charts and graphics Partner with creative leads and directors to execute high-quality design work Translate complex data into clear, narrative-driven visual stories Collaborate cross-functionally with editors, designers, engineers, and data teams Lead design execution from concept through production across multiple formats Prototype and test design concepts across platforms and use cases Contribute to editorial initiatives and evolving design strategies Key Skills Data Visualization & Information Design Editorial & Narrative Design Creative Direction & Concept Development Cross-Functional Collaboration Qualifications 7–10 years of experience working with data-driven design in agency, studio, or media environments Strong portfolio demonstrating diverse formats and high-quality visual work Experience translating data into clear, engaging visual narratives Proficiency in graphic design, typography, and illustration Experience with tools such as D3, Processing, or similar visualization technologies Understanding of user-centered design and cross-platform visual storytelling Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills Ability to manage multiple projects independently and deliver polished outputs Experience working with cross-disciplinary teams including editorial, engineering, and data science Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred Equal Opportunity Statement Mathys+Potestio values applicants of all backgrounds and experiences.
