Assistant/ Associate Designer - Home Textiles

Our client, a Home Decor & Textile Company, is seeking a Associate Designer to join their team in Matawan, New Jersey! This is a full-time hour contract role.

Responsibilities:

• Create seasonal mood and trend boards in collaboration with the Design Director
• Design and development of original, trend-driven and brand-appropriate collections for all top-of-bed product categories, and surface print collections for Throws, Blankets, Sheets, Shower Curtains, Quilts and Comforters.
• Develop accurate artwork, print repeats, and specs using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
• Translate seasonal concept direction into innovative and commercially compelling design assortments
• Prepare design files for sampling and production
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product execution matches design intent
• Support product revisions, costing updates, and presentation materials
• Meet with retail buyers as needed to present and discuss designs
• Collaborate closely with Product Development to source unique materials, trims, and surface techniques
• Work proactively within the product development calendar to ensure all deliverables are met ahead of deadlines
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members, sharing industry best practices in terms of design processes, tech pack development, and pattern library management

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design, Apparel Design, Fashion Design, or related field
• 2-3 + years design experience in home or fashion/apparel
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• Deep understanding of textile construction, fabrications, surface design, and printing/manufacturing techniques
• Skilled in both hand-drawing and digital illustration, with the ability to create original artwork whilst effectively curating from existing library
• Experience collaborating directly with overseas factories
