Job Summary Eastern Washington University’s Department of Dental Hygiene Clinic seeks a highly skilled, team‑oriented Dental Assistant 2 (DA2) to support patient care and clinic operations. The 10‑month, full‑time position reports to the Chair of the Dental Hygiene Department and the Operations Manager and requires onsite presence during regular business hours. Location & Employment Terms Spokane, WA. Term: 10 months per year. Start Date: August 17 2026. Salary: $43,010 – $49,820 (prorated for 10 months). Responsibilities Communication: Greet visitors, patients, vendors and prospective students; answer, triage and manage phone calls; take and transfer messages; provide information on services, fees and insurance; maintain confidentiality (HIPAA). Coordination of Patient Support Services: Schedule new and return appointments, obtain authorizations and enter data into the electronic dental record system, verify eligibility and benefits, process payments, assist students with front‑office protocols, balance receipts, and handle work orders. Quality Assurance: Reconcile patient documents, investigate and correct rejected charges. Clerical Functions: Collect and deliver mail, develop and update clinic forms, and maintain department correspondence. Electronic Health Record Support: Provide training and basic assistance to students and faculty, manage login procedures, troubleshoot problems, and coordinate with appropriate personnel for resolution. Working Environment & Professionalism: Maintain a clean, neat, and professional workspace and personal appearance; exhibit a warm, helpful, and positive attitude in all interactions. Duties as Assigned: Perform any additional tasks assigned by the Department Chair or Operations Manager. Required Qualifications At least two years of experience as a dental assistant or in a patient‑contact dental clinic role Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential, registered with the Washington State Department of Health Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) Proficient in Microsoft Word; intermediate to advanced word‑processing skills Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, universal accessibility and diversity Professional appearance and demeanor Responsive, flexible approach supporting the needs of students, faculty, staff and the public Preferred Qualifications More than two years of relevant experience Experience with third‑party billing of dental procedures Knowledge of dental terminology Physical Demands & Essential Functions Must handle patient contact and perform clinical duties; protective equipment includes level 3 mask, optional N95 mask, shields, lab jacket, scrubs, gloves, safety glasses, and scrub cap. Periodic standing, walking and light lifting may be required.
