Speech Language Pathologist

Reports To Position: Rehabilitation Supervisor or Manager

Department: Rehabilitation

Position Overview: The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates, plans, and provides treatment and rehabilitation as prescribed by a referring physician. Works with family and team members regarding patient's abilities and goals.

This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Essential Functions and Duties:

Adheres to Oregon State Speech-Language Licensing Board Standards.

Performs evaluation and treatment of patients with speech, hearing, language, voice, cognitive or swallowing disorders.

Provides community resource, knowledge and referral services.

Provides staff consultation and training.

May be required to drive Rehabilitation van and meet all related SCHS vehicle policy requirements.

Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Care Team to assure care is accomplished effectively and efficiently in a cost effective manner.

Participates in clinical care conferencing.

Gathers data and accurately documents information in a timely manner demonstrating compliance with department standards.

Participates with team members in facilitating patient's and family's learning throughout the course of care. Reinforces patient's continued health care through teaching and/or referral to community agency follow-up.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

Education:

Required: Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from a college or university accredited by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Required: Must have necessary requisites for licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the Oregon State Board of Health. Must have active Certificate of Clinical Competance (CCC) from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). Must have necessary requisites for a valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites. Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.

Experience:

Required: 1 year experience required of therapy procedures with medical based diagnoses and familiarity with rehabilitation practices.

Preferred: Previous experience in a hospital-based setting. See additional position information for list of preferred certifications.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Northern Speech Services: Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Scale (MBSIMP).

American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders: Board Certified Specialist- Child Language (BCS-CL).

American Board of Fluency and Fluency Disorders: Board Certified Specialist- Stuttering, Cluttering and Fluency Disorders (BCS-SCF).

American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders: Board Certified Specialist- Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (BCS-S).

Brain Injury Associate of America: Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS).

LSVT Global: LSVT LOUD.

Evergreen Certifications: Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP). ADHD-Certified Rehabilitation Services Provider (ADHD-RSP).

International Association of Orofacial Myology: International Association of Orofacial Myology (COM).

Physiological Oncology Rehab Institute: PORi Certification for oncology therapy (PORi).

Neurorecovery Unlimited: Certified Stroke Rehabilitation Specialist (CSRS).

Computer:

Basic to intermediate ability and experience in computer applications, specifically electronic medical records system and MS Office.

Physical Requirements:

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds.

Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching overhead, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.

Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.

Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.

Exposure to Elemental Factors:

Rarely (10%): Wet/slippery area, chemical solution.

Never (0%): Heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface.
