Exercise Specialist PRN

Title: Exercise Specialist – PRN Location: BLH Bronson LakeView Hospital, BSH Bronson South Haven Role Overview The Exercise Specialist provides clinical support to Cardiovascular Services and/or Cardiac / Pulmonary Rehabilitation. In Cardiovascular Services, the specialist performs all physician‑ordered non‑invasive cardiology tests such as 12‑lead and signal‑averaged EKGs, a variety of cardiac stress tests in CVS and Nuclear Medicine, Holter and event monitoring, and supervises stress tests. In Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation, the specialist supervises Phase II and Phase III cardiac rehabilitation, prescribes exercise prescriptions, monitors patients, and documents performance and treatment plans. Responsibilities Perform non‑invasive cardiac testing, including 12‑lead, signal‑averaged EKGs, cardiac and nuclear medicine stress tests, Holter monitoring, and event monitoring. Supervise and assist in the administration of pharmacologic stress tests (Lexiscan, Definity) according to department policy. Prescribe, supervise, and adjust Phase II and Phase III exercise prescriptions and monitor patient response during cardiac rehabilitation sessions. Monitor and record patient vitals, RPE, SOB, pain scores, heart rate zone, and other parameters during exercise. Document patient performance, exercise prescriptions, and treatment plans in the computer system. Act as a clinical liaison, coordinating case review meetings with physicians and other health professionals, and obtaining prior authorizations when necessary. Maintain and calibrate cardiac testing equipment, perform minor preventive maintenance, and ensure equipment cleanliness. Perform clerical tasks such as scheduling, answering calls, and transmitting daily schedules to other departments. Assist in the preparation of rooms and patient equipment prior to procedures, and administer intravenous medications per protocol. Eligibility Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or a related field. Minimum one year of experience in exercise testing of low and high‑risk patients. Completion of Basic EKG and Advanced EKG courses within 12 months of hire. Certification: BLS required upon hire or within the first 90 days; ACLS required within 6 months; Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine is preferred. Licenses, Registrations, Certifications BLS – Basic Life Support certification required upon hire or within 90 days. ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required within 6 months of hire. ASCM – Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, preferred. Work Environment Work is conducted in a clean, well‑lit, temperature‑controlled environment. Occasional exposure to cutting instruments, blood/airborne pathogens, fumes, airborne particles, and caustic chemicals may occur. Physical Demands Regular talking, hearing, standing, walking, and using hands for fine motor skills. Occasional stooping, crouching or kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Rapid movements may be required during emergency situations. Vision requirements include close, color, depth, peripheral vision, and focus ability. Interpersonal Requirements Effective communication and social sensitivity when working with patients, physicians, employees, and customers.
