A Registered Nurse (RN) Charge Nurse is a healthcare professional responsible for overseeing the nursing operations within a specific unit or department during a designated shift, including assigning tasks to other nurses, ensuring quality patient care is delivered, and acting as a leader on the unit while also providing direct patient care when needed; essentially bridging the gap between staff nurses and unit managers by managing day-to-day operations on the floor.
