EPIDEMIOLOGY SPECIALIST-TB OUTREACH-Public Health

Summary The Epidemiology Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of TB Prevention & Control division of the Public Health Department including investigating TB cases and suspecting and associating investigations which includes the identification and follow-up of all contacts e.g., skin test, x-ray, medical clinic appointments and ninety (90) day repeat TST’s. Responsible for all high-risk screening activities along with other duties assigned by supervisor. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Contacts investigation interview, works up testing and referrals for TB cases and suspects Responsible for all paperwork related to contact investigation Performs high risk screening activities Locates, transports and medicates patients Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required Performs all other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite. Advanced analytical skills. Knowledge of medical terminology and forms, equipment, methods and techniques used to provide counseling services Knowledge of principles and practices of public health education; pertinent federal, state, and local codes laws and regulations; communicable disease and how to protect themselves from disease process. Understanding of filing system and maintaining a large changing database Ability to work without constant supervision Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Public Health, Natural Science, or a related field, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible disease counseling or prevention experience, required OR An Associate’s degree/LVN with four (4) years of TB/STD/HIV experience required. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license. Preferred Requirements Spanish and English proficiency in oral and written communication preferred. Physical Demands And Work Environment & Other Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be required to bend, hear, keyboard, sit, stand, talk, work alone and with others, and work overtime.
