Position: Emergency Veterinarian – Northeast Veterinary Referral Hospital At PetVet Care Centers, our mission is to improve the lives of animals and people by providing exceptional care. We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Emergency Veterinarian to join our team at Northeast Veterinary Referral Hospital in Plains, Pennsylvania. Position Overview The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with clients. The role includes working alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff, and collaborating closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager. The hospital operates 24/7, offering specialty referral services during the day and round‑the‑clock emergency care for our community. Work schedules are flexible, with options such as 2‑3 shifts per week, 5 on / 10 off, 10 in a row, and more. A travel stipend of up to $25,000 per year is available for non‑local candidates. What We Offer Signing, retention, and relocation packages up to $75,000 Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid parental leave (birth, adoption, foster) 401(k) with discretionary contribution Team member pet discounts Emotional wellbeing support, including Calm app access and 24/7 EAP CE stipends and career development resources Grant Circle – a relief fund for personal hardship Local hospital culture backed by national resources Key Responsibilities Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Client communication and education Performing diagnostic procedures and surgery Maintaining accurate medical records Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge Monitor cases and attend daily rounds when possible to maintain high standards Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels Perform other duties as assigned by Management Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM) from an accredited college or university Current State Veterinary License DEA registration obtained and maintained 1+ years of experience in a veterinary emergency practice Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Excellent surgical and dental skills Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care Client communication skills: ability to elicit information, establish rapport, offer explanations with pet owners Confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or pain Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderate physically demanding work May include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Clinical knowledge and skills in evaluating and treating animals across multiple systems Problem‑solving ability to develop solutions for high‑quality veterinary hospital management Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and staff Professionalism and openness to constructive criticism and feedback Business acumen: understanding of practice management and finances Ethical decision‑making knowledge and application Commitment to continuing education and supporting others’ learning Pay Range $175,000 – $225,000 USD Equal Opportunity PetVet is an equal opportunity employer.
