River Vista Behavioral Health sits along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River. This brand‑new facility offers advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley and employs clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff and administrators. We are currently seeking a forward‑thinking and compassionate REGISTERED NURSE to join our Nursing Team. The Staff Nurse (R.N.) coordinates, evaluates, and prescribes patient care in collaboration with the health team, following the nursing process and standards of care. Qualifications Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing (Bachelor’s Degree preferred). Experience: Minimum of three (3) years in a behavioral health facility. Licensure: Current California State Board of Nursing license. Additional Requirements: CPR certification and successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training (CPI training may be obtained during orientation). Essential Job Functions Assessment Document patient information and nursing care. Reassess significant changes in the patient’s condition in compliance with policy. Report signs or symptoms of infection to the Infection Control Nurse. Verify accuracy of patient records. Intervention Employ communication, interviewing, problem‑solving, and crisis intervention techniques during psychotherapeutic interventions. Basis for intervention on psychiatric and medical nursing procedures and plan of care. Accurately administer medication. Transcribe and execute physician’s/licensed practitioner’s orders. Use appropriate interventions in psychiatric and medical emergencies. Treatment Planning Participate in developing an interdisciplinary plan with measurable goals and interventions. Prioritize and formulate a care plan based on assessment. Update and revise plan as goals are met or conditions change. Document interventions and patient response. Ensure patients are oriented to the program. Monitor program activity and encourage participation. Prescribe and coordinate care during episodes of care. Maintain a therapeutic environment with other providers. Follow universal precautions and safety guidelines. Conduct didactic groups with patients and families. Serve as a role model promoting health communication. Milieu Orient patients to the program. Monitor activity and encourage participation. Prescribe and coordinate care during episodes of care. Teaching Provide education to patients and families on communication, interpersonal, social skills and basic health principles. Document discharge instructions including food/drug interactions, diets, and activities. Evaluate teaching effectiveness. Encourage discussion of feelings about treatments and diagnoses. Performance Participate in quality assurance programs. Collaborate with teammates. Advocate for patient rights. Comply with infection control, OSHA, and risk management measures. Use time effectively and organized to meet responsibilities. Demonstrate courteous communication with patients, clinicians, colleagues, and visitors. Follow policies and procedures. Adhere to the employee Code of Ethics. Work overtime during emergencies or as directed. Attend mandatory educational programs and in‑services. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Maintain therapeutic boundaries and follow procedures. Specific Standards for the Care of Child Patients (Ages 5 and older) Maintain knowledge of program rules, protocols, and handbooks. Understand child development stages and seek guidance when needed. Assess behaviors consistent with developmental stages. Recognize and set limits for age‑appropriate behaviors. Acknowledge learning disabilities and adjust expectations accordingly. Relate to children appropriately. Apply seclusion and restraint with modifications for smaller bodies and histories of abuse. Specific Standards for the Care of Adolescent Patients (Ages 12 and older) Maintain knowledge of program rules, protocols, and handbooks. Assess behaviors consistent with developmental stages. Set limits for adolescent behaviors. Acknowledge learning disabilities and adjust expectations. Relate appropriately to adolescents. Apply seclusion and restraint with modifications for adolescent body size and abuse history. Specific Standards for the Care of Adult Patients (Ages 18 and older) Gather information from interdisciplinary team for planning. Recognize behaviors and set limits with clear, concise language. Implement seclusion/restraint procedures suitable for adult body size and history. Apply theoretical concepts for effective adult care. Maintain knowledge of program rules, protocols, and handbooks. Specific Standards for the Care of Geriatric Patients (Ages 60 and older) Understand developmental tasks and aging theories. Apply gerontological concepts for health care and behavioral care. Gather information for comprehensive care planning. Specific Standards for the Care of Chemically Dependent Patients Understand special needs related to chemical dependency. C– collaborate with other staff to facilitate care. Be aware of co‑dependency impacts on work performance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of personal hygiene training techniques. Knowledge of all code procedures. Knowledge of psychiatric care techniques. Knowledge of assaultive behavior management techniques. Knowledge of admitting procedures. Knowledge of P.I.E. charting (problem, intervention, evaluation). Organizing and prioritizing workloads. Telephone etiquette and paging procedures. Effective oral and written communication. Ability to communicate with patients and coworkers. Adherence to safety policies. Confidentiality of information. Team player mindset. Tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication. Flexibility with different patient age groups. Involvement in all patient care aspects. Work in fast‑paced environments. Calm emergency response. Competent use of a stethoscope. Physical, Mental, and Special Demands Ability to hear and see adequately for tasks. Stand, sit, or walk up to six hours, sit up to two hours. Move frequently while delivering care. Visual acuity for chart reading and activity demonstration. Adapt to outdoor temperatures and indoor variations. Push or pull wheeled carts (e.g., crash cart) from specified weight ranges. Lift and carry up to specified weights, occasionally with assistance. Reach above shoulder height, kneel, bend, stoop, twist. Manipulate small objects. Read written material and discern odors. Handle hazardous/infectious waste. Work in high‑noise environments with chemical usage. Use Handle with Care techniques proficiently. Work every other weekend, both Saturday and Sunday.
