Surgical First Assistant

Under the direct and immediate supervision of a surgeon, the surgical first assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The surgical first assistant plays a vital role in patient care and assisting surgeons preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively.

Minimum requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduation from accredited surgical assistant program with subsequent current certification/credential
• Current CPR if applicable
• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age
