Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience.

Details

• 53-bed NICU unit with an average patient census of 58, plus overflow capacity
• High-acuity, fast-paced neonatal environment within a 247-licensed-bed Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
• Patient population includes complex respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PPHN, PDA), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and GI/GU/metabolic/infectious diagnoses including NEC, NAS, sepsis, and congenital anomalies
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
• 12-hour shifts; day shift hours are 0645–1915 and night shift hours are 1845–0715, with 36 standard hours per week
• Schedule is determined every 6 weeks based on unit needs; weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other Saturday/Sunday per 6-week cycle
• No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize the traveler, floating to similar units may occur
• Floating may occur to the Neonatal PCU or as a helping hand to Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or general Peds unit
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• IV pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NRP certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency in critical care vasoactive drip titration and sedation/analgesic drip management
• Experience with invasive line management including arterial lines and CVP
• Ventilator and trach management experience required
• Familiarity with Alaris and Medfusion pump management
• Experience with g-tube/j-tube, feeding tubes, chest tubes, PCAs, and foley catheter insertion and management
• CRRT experience preferred; experience with EVDs, Camino ICP monitoring devices, and baby-side ECMO is a plus (manager flexible on these)
• Aseptic and sterile technique proficiency required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval depending on current unit staffing
• Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
• 2-day departmental orientation provided
• Robust unit support includes a charge nurse, unit secretary, IV/VAT/PICC team, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, unit-based educators (AM and PM), and 6 clinical supervisors — all available 24/7 where noted
• Holiday coverage is required; travelers are expected to work holidays as scheduled, including the day of and the eve and/or day after, on an every-other-holiday rotation while contracted
• RTO requires manager approval; significant RTO needs may require a contract extension
• Scrub color is navy; long-sleeve underlayers must be solid navy or white; pediatric-friendly scrub tops are encouraged; no tight scrubs or other organization-branded attire
• "Bare Below Elbow" policy in the nursery — no watches, jewelry (real or artificial), or artificial nails permitted
• Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, trust, accountability, respect, and flexibility
