Job Description Summary A Stumptown Barista ensures the quality of our coffee from bean to cup, consistently providing exceptional hospitality and quality beverages. Baristas pursue coffee knowledge, develop a passion for the craft, and model continuous growth, best‑in‑class hospitality, and quality in all things. Key Responsibilities Prepare espresso beverages for customers, meeting Stumptown’s quality standards. Deliver an exceptional customer experience; proactively engage with customers to understand and meet their needs. Develop a thorough understanding of our coffees, teas, foods, merchandise, and promotions to drive sales and provide knowledgeable conversations with customers. Maintain a clean and organized environment for customers and coworkers in all areas of the store. Demonstrate willingness and openness to change and share ideas on how to improve the store. Test coffee, tea, and specialty beverages regularly to maintain familiarity with product and quality standards. Accurately process transactions in the POS system and reconcile the till. Practice self‑reflection and ask for feedback on performance; hone personal strengths and opportunities for improvement. Implement sustainability practices that reduce environmental impact, following SOPs for minimizing waste, conserving energy, and limiting water usage, and propose process improvements whenever possible. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for coffee and a desire to educate others. Ability to deliver exceptional hospitality in a personal and professional manner. Strong attention to detail and a healthy respect for cleanliness and sanitation. Health department license or certification as required by state or local requirements. Excellent communication skills with employees and customers of all backgrounds. Open to feedback and constantly striving to improve. Ability to multitask with ease. Early AM, nights, weekends, and extreme reliability required. Physical Demands Stand and walk—must be able to stand for shifts and move about the café. Perform repetitive motion with the hands, wrists, and forearms to operate espresso machinery. Detect and perceive the smell, taste, and appearance of coffee. Frequent communication with customers. Lift up to 5lb. frequently and up to 50lb. occasionally. Work Environment Work is performed at the café. Interfacing with the public. Environment can be noisy. Pay Transparency & Benefits The target base compensation for this position is $19.07 per hour.
