Process Improvement Analyst I - Patient Safety and Quality

The Process Improvement Analyst I directs and coordinates quality improvement activities and projects at the hospital to foster a culture of continuous process improvement. This position is responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting for key quality and performance indicators. Working with all organizational levels, the analyst identifies opportunities for improvement, structures efforts to achieve targeted goals, and establishes measurement systems to monitor performance. The analyst serves as a resource to develop performance improvement tools, dashboards, and graphs for leadership and assists the leadership team with implementation and sustainability strategies in our journey to becoming a Highly Reliable Organization (HRO). Responsibilities A day in the life of a Process Improvement Analyst I at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: Ensures data integrity by accurately collecting, analyzing, and proofreading information from valid sources to produce clear, error-free, and user-friendly reports. Designs, develops, and modifies database forms and reports to meet user-specific needs for data capture and information retrieval. Manages and performs in-depth data analysis for clinical quality improvement and other key projects, ensuring the timely delivery of accurate findings to support organizational goals. Documents process flows, gaps, and actions for process improvement initiatives. Applies and appropriately uses performance enhancing tools in support of the improvement process (cause-effect diagrams, flow charts, brain storming), problem analysis (control charts, histograms, run charts, financial analyses, etc.), and measurement in conjunction with Quality Improvement Specialist and Department of Patient Safety and Quality Leadership. Demonstrates flexibility in supporting departmental success by developing and editing high-quality presentation materials for various projects and taking on other assignments to meet the evolving needs of the Department of Patient Safety and Quality. Develops a range of data solutions, including custom reports, programs, and files, to facilitate effective data analysis and presentation. Assists the Leadership team with the development and implementation of Hospital Level Highly Reliable Organization (HRO) strategies. Guarantees the security and confidentiality of all patient information and other sensitive data by implementing and adhering to strict data protection protocols, ensuring full compliance with HIPAA and corporate IT security standards. Enhances the quality and value of analytical outcomes by proactively developing an awareness of key project issues and applying that knowledge to the evaluation and interpretation of data. Develops effective data collection and evaluation tools to identify opportunities to improve patient care. Provides data analysis and development of key performance metrics to help monitor performance. Participates in prioritization of business processes and/or technology driven projects. Works collaboratively with leadership to significantly impact clinical outcomes, operational efficiency and/or service delivery. Demonstrates systematic thinking and ability to anticipate cross-organizational consequences and implications of actions and decisions. Performs ad hoc analysis to support strategy and analyze performance. Provides ongoing communication to all stakeholders including senior management. Meets regularly with project champions to update project status. Works with process owners and project champions to drive results. Demonstrates effective mediation, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills. Develops and presents reports of process findings, data analysis, and recommendations and communicates project status to various audiences throughout the hospital in conjunction with the Patient Safety Quality Team. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior. Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Bachelor's Degree in healthcare, business, engineering or related field. Minimum of 1-3 or more years of experience in quality and process improvement in Healthcare. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work as part of a team. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms. This role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment to deliver high-quality solutions, and exceptional collaboration with nursing, ancillary, and physician teams. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Master's Degree in healthcare, business, engineering or related field. Experience in analytics, implementation science, statistical analysis, project management, performance improvement. Licenses and Certifications Preferred: Six Sigma Lean Black Belt Professional. Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
