FT Speech Therapist (Leave Replacement)

The Shore Center, a public specialized school for autistic students, is seeking a full-time speech therapist for the 2026-27 school year. The leave replacement position is for the dates of 9/1/26 - 11/25/26.

Title: Speech Language Specialist

Qualifications and Job Description:

• Valid New Jersey Department of Education Certificate and Speech Language Specialist Endorsement
• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
• Experience working with and supporting autistic youth (not youth with autism)
• Implement person-centered therapy goals that focus on self-advocacy, self-regulation, and understanding communication barriers
• Introduce and program augmentative and alternative communication devices and tools (e.g. high-teach speech output, low-tech communication boards) supporting a total communication approach.
• Implement therapy plans that prioritize neurodiversity-affirming interventions, respect students' unique characteristics, focus on authentic connection, and build upon their strengths/interests.
• Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge in the field of speech language pathology
• Ability to effectively apply the principles of assessment, treatment and hearing disorders
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Reports To: Supervisor and/or Principal

Responsibilities:

• Plan, prepare and deliver treatment programs for children with speech and language deficiencies.
• Provide diagnostic evaluations of pupils referred to the child study team for communication disorders and participate in team conferences related to those pupils.
• Participate in the development and implementation of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) with the IEP Team for those students who are eligible for speech and language services.
• Provide individual and small group intervention sessions with students who are eligible for speech as directed by the respective IEPs.
• Keep necessary records for each child and complete all required local, state, and federal reports.
• Participate in the development and improvement of opportunities for students with special needs by providing individual or group in-service experiences for all staff and parents.
• Conduct ongoing evaluations of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their respective programs.
• Act as educational consultant to classroom teachers and administrators as required.
• Assist in proper referrals of individual students to agencies and specialists in the community.
• Attend conferences and workshops to appropriately maintain JD - Speech Language Specialist Page 2 certifications, especially in the areas of autism and speech and language services.
• Maintain the therapy room and all resources and materials neat and orderly, making it conducive to learning.
• Participate in Parent-Teacher Night and Back to School and other events.
• Develop, maintain and implement augmentative systems for students as directed by the IEP.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the principal and/or supervisor.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary: $60,680 to $80,930 (prorated)

Benefits: Health & Prescription, Dental

PTO: Up to 10 Sick days, up to 3 personal days

Terms of Employment: Full-time, 10 months or Part-time as needed
