About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pediatric Psychiatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Hours per Shift: 48 Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Behavioral Health nursing required. Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred. License: Current State License required. Certifications: BLS, MOAB obtained on site (part of orientation). Must-Have: - De-escalation experience. - Experience with physical restraints. - Comfort with running groups and documentation. Description: Start date needed: 08/03/2026. Candidate must be willing to float between adult and pediatric patients as needed. Facility provides a free-standing acute inpatient setting with 94 beds total. Pediatric patients are ages 5-18 years old, with common diagnoses including eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. Adult patients are ages 18 and older. Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety. There are no forensic patients or inmates, and the facility is locked but not to the extent of holding patients under arrest. Seclusion rooms are used when necessary. Occasionally, the unit will admit patients with substance use disorder who are medically cleared. The unit offers traditional medical and psychiatric care in addition to specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient ratios for RNs are 1:5-6 during the day and 1:13 at night with resource support. Psych Techs will provide support, with 6 Techs during the day for pediatrics and 2 Techs during the night. Additional support includes a nurse supervisor available for evenings and weekends, and a nurse manager available during the day. There is a house administrator on site overnight and on weekends. Charge nurses may have patient assignments. A contracted phlebotomist will handle lab draws. A nurse practitioner is available until 16:00 and on call overnight. The psychiatrist conducts daily rounds and is on call from 00:00-06:00. An occupational therapist is present from 08:00-16:30, 7 days per week. Security personnel are on site but will not respond to patient escalations; staff from all units will respond. The charting system in use is Cerner. Floating is required between adult and pediatric units. Weekend rotations are every other weekend, and weekend scheduling cannot be guaranteed. Holidays are expected to be worked in rotation. Travelers may have the opportunity to act as Charge nurses if desired. Scrub color must be a solid, professional color. Heavy snow conditions are expected during winter months. In case of escalation, a code leader will assign roles to other staff while verbally de-escalating the patient. The code leader will also provide support during code situations, and a debriefing form should be completed afterwards. MOAB training will be reviewed onsite, and scenario-based training will be available for practice every other week if needed.
