Economics and Finance Faculty (10-Month)

Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a full-time faculty member to teach economics and finance courses. Responsibilities include teaching macroeconomics, microeconomics, finance and other business program courses; participating in the preparation and review of curriculum; making meaningful contributions to departmental initiatives and the broader mission of the college; and collaborating with departmental colleagues to enhance student success. This full-time 10-month faculty position is in the WWCCFA bargaining unit represented by the MSEA and has excellent fringe benefits. The starting salary will depend on the faculty rank offered (based on education, experience and qualifications) and will likely range from $52,500 to $64,250 for instructor, $60,300 to $73,900 for assistant professor, or $69,400 to $85,100 for associate professor. Opportunities may exist to teach additional classes on separate contracts. THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF WOR-WIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND THE WOR-WIC COMMUNITY COLLEGE FACULTY ASSOCIATION
Faculty members are expected to meet students where they are, by holding classes and office hours, participating in committee assignments and collaborative engagement with members of the Wor-Wic Community College community. Faculty members are expected to spend significant portions of their work time on campus or other location where student engagement occurs, although the precise amount of time spent on campus will vary based on the faculty member's specific duties.
(A)Instruction. A faculty member is responsible for the creation and management of an environment conducive to the student's learning of credit course material; the preparation and use of course syllabi; using approved technology; meeting all scheduled learning experiences, including the final examination; maintaining student records; posting and maintaining scheduled office hours; updating course syllabi, providing copies of tests or assignments when requested, and posting approved scheduled office hours each semester; submitting attendance rosters, midterm grades, final grades within the established time frame each semester; and contributing to the implementation of the annual course and programmatic assessment process and comprehensive program reviews, which may include developing/editing course objectives, means of assessment and benchmarks, collecting data, analyzing and reporting results, and creating and reporting progress on action plans for improvement. Faculty members are responsible for fully supporting course coordinators as requested by, for example, assisting with recommendations for appropriate textbooks and contributing to the annual course assessment process, which may include developing/editing course objectives, means of assessment and benchmarks, collecting data, analyzing and reporting results, and creating and reporting progress on action plans for improvement. (1)Student Alerts. To facilitate student success through timely intervention by student services, a faculty member shall submit an alert for student performance impacting their final completion of the course in the College's designated student alert software as soon as reasonable after concerns are identified.
(2)Course Coordinators. The specific role of a Course Coordinator will differ depending upon the discipline and department in which the Course Coordinator works. Duties of a Course Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the preparation and use of course master syllabi and the recommendation and ordering of appropriate textbooks; developing/editing course objectives, means of assessment and benchmarks, collecting data, analyzing and reporting results, and creating and reporting progress on action plans for improvement. A Course Coordinator is responsible for providing course orientation to new faculty to review the syllabus and offering guidance regarding course materials. A Course Coordinator serves as a resource for faculty during the semester about any course-related concerns. A Course Coordinator meets with full time and/or part time faculty on an annual basis, or as needed, to review the syllabus and textbook and share course materials. Faculty are responsible for soliciting information from other faculty about their needs in teaching the courses they coordinate, then completing the necessary budget forms to obtain the materials.
(B)Professional Development. Maintaining currency and relevance in academia and industry requires appropriate and deliberate professional development. Faculty members are expected to engage in professional development activities of at least three (3) hours per academic/fiscal year. Professional development activities include but are not limited to mandatory/required trainings; professional licensure; attendance and/or presentation as part of College, local, and national society conferences; programmatic accreditation; discipline-related webinars and/or readings; and pedagogical training. Faculty members will maintain a record of their professional development activities, will include such reports in their individual evaluations, and will share information from professional development activities with peers and the College, as appropriate. (C)Service Through Departmental and Institutional Support. Service through departmental and institutional support is not included in standard instructional or professional development duties. Service includes advancing College initiatives, supporting its mission and programmatic accreditation, improving the overall College experience, influencing or impacting the College and/or student performance, elevating the institution, and implementing innovation or high-quality work on behalf of the College. Faculty members are expected to work collaboratively with their Department Head or other supervisor(s) to determine the departmental and institutional service in which they will participate each year.
(1)Departmental Service. Departmental service includes consulting, assisting and supporting the academic advising center; assisting the department head with the requisition of materials, supplies, textbooks and equipment necessary for effective classroom instruction; assisting with registration procedures; attending departmental meetings and serving on appropriate departmental committees when assigned or elected; participating in on-site and off-site promotional/recruiting activities; participating in program and curriculum development and coordination; contributing to the program review; working with professionals in the faculty member's field of study and with the department's program advisory committee; contributing to the annual, interim/midcycle, and five-year comprehensive program review report for various phases of the assessment process and to reaccreditation self-studies.
(2)Institutional Service. Institutional service includes attending all institutional meetings called by the dean, the vice president for academic affairs or the president, including one half-day and one full-day in-service sessions per year; serving on institutional committees when assigned or elected; participating in peer evaluation of design skills; attending graduation ceremonies; and participating in other institutional service activities assigned by the College's Executive Leadership team.
(3) Adjustments to Service Obligations A faculty member may request removal from an assignment if the assignment exceeds their required service to the College, and the faculty member thinks that commitment is negatively impacting their other responsibilities under this Section 7.3. The College may grant the request if it does not negatively impact the department or institution, with the faculty member's understanding that removal from the assignment may be reflected in their performance evaluation based on the evaluation rubric. If a faculty member is requested to participate in a new, significant and non-recurring service obligation that the faculty member considers a substantial time commitment in addition to their obligations under this Section 7.3(C), the faculty member may petition their Dean and the Vice President for Academic Affairs for release time or the equivalent stipend under Appendix B of this Agreement.
- Master's degree in economics, finance, business or other relevant field with at least 12 graduate credits in economics or finance
- Applicants who are currently pursuing a graduate degree and have completed at least 12 graduate credits in economics or finance may also be considered
- Preference will be given to applicants with in-person and virtual teaching experience and professional and/or teaching experience in economics or finance
This full-time 10-month faculty position is in the WWCCFA bargaining unit represented by the MSEA and has excellent fringe benefits. The position is expected to begin August 15. The starting salary for this position will depend on the faculty rank offered (based on education, experience and qualifications) and will likely range from $52,500 to $64,250 for instructor, $60,300 to $73,900 for assistant professor, or $69,400 to $85,100 for associate professor. Opportunities may exist for overload pay and/or additional classes on separate contracts.
