Work Schedule: M-F 8-4:30 Job Summary: The Staff Accountant & Data Analyst is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the hospital through general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, account reconciliations, and data analytics. This position combines traditional accounting responsibilities with business intelligence and data analysis to provide leadership with meaningful financial, operational, and clinical performance information. The Staff Accountant & Data Analyst develops reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) that support strategic planning, revenue cycle optimization, productivity monitoring, and regulatory reporting. The position collaborates with Finance, Revenue Cycle, Human Resources, and department leaders to improve organizational performance through accurate financial management and data-driven decision making. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field required. CPA or CPA candidate preferred. Healthcare accounting experience preferred. Critical Access Hospital or rural healthcare experience preferred. Experience with business intelligence reporting preferred. Responsibilities include: (Day-to-day operational duties and responsibilities) Accounting Responsibilities Prepare and record journal entries. Perform monthly account reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations. Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities. Reconcile bank accounts and cash activity. Assist with fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules. Maintain prepaid expenses and accrual schedules. Prepare sales tax, payroll tax, and other required filings as assigned. Support annual external financial audits and cost report preparation. Assist with budget preparation and forecasting. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Monitor internal controls and recommend improvements. Analyze financial performance and identify trends. Prepare variance analyses comparing actual results to budget and prior year. Assist with operating and capital budget development. Develop financial models to support organizational planning. Monitor departmental expenses and provide budget support to department managers. Assist with cash flow forecasting and financial projections. Develop dashboards and reports using Power BI, Excel, SQL, or other reporting tools. Analyze operational, financial, and clinical data to identify opportunities for improvement. Monitor productivity metrics and benchmark performance. Perform trend analysis for patient volumes, payer mix, reimbursement, and revenue cycle performance. Validate data accuracy across financial and operational systems. Automate recurring reports to improve efficiency. Data Management Maintain financial databases and reporting systems. Ensure data integrity between accounting, payroll, EHR, and revenue cycle systems. Perform data validation and reconciliation activities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Learned competencies, capacity, aptitude. Example: excellent problem solver, self-starter, etc. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Understanding of healthcare reimbursement and hospital finance. Experience with Medicare cost reporting. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, Power Query, Power Pivot, advanced formulas). Experience with Microsoft Power BI, SQL, and data visualization tools. Knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems. Ability to analyze large data sets and present actionable insights. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Physical Requirements for the Role: Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating office equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and via video conferencing. Occasionally lift and carry office materials weighing up to 15–20 pounds. Ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail for extended periods while reviewing financial data and reports. Visual ability to read printed documents and computer screens, with or without reasonable accommodation. Primarily performed in a professional office or remote office environment. Standard business hours, with additional hours that may be required during month-end close, year-end close, audits, budgeting, or other peak reporting periods. Regular use of computers, accounting software, and standard office equipment. Frequent collaboration with finance teams, department managers, external auditors, and other stakeholders. Fast-paced environment requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
