Vitalis Clinical Research Center is hiring a part-time Experienced Phlebotomist (20–24 hours/week) to collect and process biological samples for clinical trials, with a planned move to full-time (40 hours/week) as study volume grows.

As a Research Phlebotomist you will draw and process samples exactly as each protocol requires, so the data and specimens our sponsors rely on are accurate, on time, and compliant with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

You will work closely with Clinical Research Coordinators, investigators, and lab staff across multiple therapeutic areas.

Key responsibilities

Sample collection

• Perform venipuncture and capillary (fingerstick) collections on adult and, where applicable, pediatric study participants.
• Follow protocol-specific requirements for tube type, draw order, volume, and timed draws (e.g., pharmacokinetic schedules).
• Verify participant identity and confirm informed consent is on file before any collection.
• Collect other specimens as required (urine, saliva, swabs) and give clear participant instructions.

Processing and shipping

• Centrifuge, aliquot, label, and store samples per lab manual (ambient, refrigerated, frozen at −20&degree;C/−80&degree;C).
• Package and ship specimens to central labs in line with IATA/DOT dangerous goods rules.
• Maintain lab kit inventory and track expiration dates.

Documentation and compliance

• Record collection times, processing steps, and deviations accurately in source documents and EDC/lab requisitions.
• Log temperatures for freezers, refrigerators, and centrifuges; report excursions immediately.
• Follow GCP, OSHA bloodborne pathogen, HIPAA, and site SOPs.

Participant care and team support

• Put participants at ease, especially those with needle anxiety, and monitor for adverse reactions.
• Take vital signs and perform ECGs when trained and delegated.
• Support coordinators with visit prep, scheduling, and other duties as assigned.
• Assist with Recruitment efforts

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current phlebotomy certification (e.g., NHA CPT, ASCP PBT, AMT RPT), or eligibility to certify within 90 days of hire.
• At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical, hospital, or lab setting.
• Current BLS/CPR certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
• Strong attention to detail and comfort following written protocols exactly.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and email.

Preferred

• Experience in clinical research or a central lab setting.
• Specimen processing experience (centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing).
• IATA dangerous goods shipping certification.
• GCP training certificate (e.g., CITI or NIDA).
• ECG and vital signs experience.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages in our participant community).
