We are seeking a FLOAT POOL Certified Medical Assistant(CMA) in the ambulatory practice areas function as integralmembers of the interdisciplinary team. The CMA is responsible fordirect patient care and clinic operations in the ambulatory clinicenvironment, including the maintenance of the environment of careand supplies/equipment. The CMA shares the responsibility withother clinicians in ensuring a safe environment for the patientwhile providing quality care and a positive patient experience. TheCMA functions clinically under the authority of the physicianwithin the scope of their certification. The CMA reports to thenurse manager and/or lead nurse, who is responsible for theadministrative supervision and direction of staff, orientation andannual assessment of competencies and the assurance to clinicspecific and hospital policies and procedures. The CMA is required to float between multiple practice areas atGreen Spring Station. Ideal candidate should be flexible and ableto take direction, as they learn the various clinic processes,etc. Specific Duties & Responsibilities Collects patient information at intake. Obtains and records patients vital signs: temperature, pulse,respiration, blood pressure, weight and height in the ElectronicMedical Record (EPIC). Obtains additional data from patients and significant othersbased on initial data collection. Reports abnormal findings to theprovider in a timely manner. Assists patients in the exam room and prepares patients forexaminations. Assists patients in wheelchairs and stretchers withtransfers to and from exam tables, procedure tables, and scalesutilizing proper body mechanics and safety measures. Identifies patients with special needs. Performs chart review prior to clinic visit to obtainhistorical data. Assists practitioner in identified patientprocedures/treatments/examinations, (preparation, positioning,supplies, equipment). Confirms and clarifies written orders prior to implementationof delegated tasks. Under clinical supervision, perform delegatedprocedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective, andefficient manner according to Clinical Practice Policy andProcedures. Maintains and uses principles of aseptic techniques andinfection control when performing clinical duties and tasks. Appropriately obtains and manages clinic collect lab specimensper the EPIC process. Recognizes emergency situations and implements emergencyprocedures according to clinic guidelines. Provides appropriate patient instructions, health informationmaterials and community resource lists as directed, and maintainseducational supplies. Identifies patients' need for additionalinformation and refers to appropriate healthcare resources. Orders, stocks, and maintains exam rooms and clinic areas withstandard levels of supplies, linens, nourishment, forms andequipment. Checks clinic area and rooms for malfunctioning equipment andgeneral maintenance problems on a regular basis. Reports findingsto appropriate person or arranges for repairs as required. Ensures that soiled linen, needle containers and potentiallyinfectious waste are appropriately disposed and removed from theclinic and exam area according to the infection controlguidelines. Performs related and delegated tasks, which include requestsfor prescription refills, taking and relaying messages, directingpatient flow, and running errands. Problem solves obstacles tothroughput process and notifies managers and patients of wait time.Identifies opportunities for performance improvement and providesinput for the development of solutions. Identifies and uses avariety of resources to validate patient care decisions. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or graduation equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program,such as courses provided through Medix, community colleges, and/orvocational schools. Certification/Registration as a Medical Assistant (e.g. CMA,AAMA, RMA, AMT, NAHP) required. If not currentlycertified/registered, must become certified/ registered within 180days (6 months) of date of hire. Exam fees will be paid by thedepartment. If a retest is required, associated fees are paid bythe employee. Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association orthe American Red Cross required. Must maintain MA and CPR certification/registration duringduration of employment in this position. Additional education may substitute for required experience tothe extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications One plus years experience in float pool-oriented positions,strongly preferred. Experience using EPIC. This may inclu document of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
