Performs skilled masonry duties in the construction, alteration, repair, installation and maintenance of masonry structures. Position's primary purpose is to ensure that masonry structures, restrooms/shower areas, and patios are in safe, clean and good condition and that repairs are completed promptly and properly. Hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.Job DescriptionEssential Duties:Reviews job orders and blueprints or drawings; inspects site and consults with client; determines best method to complete projectEstimates amount of materials and equipment needed to complete project; arranges for materials to be at job sitePerforms complex repair or installation on University facilities and property using expertise acquired through specialized training in the masonry tradeAssists outside contractors as needed; assists crafts-persons from other trades as neededMaintains and cleans tools and equipment; maintains work area in a clean and orderly mannerPerforms trade tasks, including constructing forms, tile, concrete, brick/block, and other building rough carpentry work, and responds to emergency situations as assignedMay prepare some paperwork; may maintain filesMinimum Qualifications:Requires nine months training beyond high school in a skilled trade (masonry) and two years of experience in the that trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceDriver's license requiredAdditional Position Information (if applicable)Preferred Qualifications:At least 5 years documented experience in masonry work or journeyman status in the trade.Required Knowledge‚ Skills‚ and Abilities:Knowledge of the procedures and equipment of a particular skilled tradeMechanical aptitudeAbility to read and understand blueprints and/or mechanical diagramsWorking Conditions:Frequent standing and walking with some climbing and lifting of materials weighing 50 to 75 pounds. Frequent operation of equpiment. Somewhat unpleasant working conditions. Some exposure to several unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable.
