Financial Analyst
First United Bank
Senior Financial Analyst - Community BankingThe Senior Financial Analyst — Community Banking is a member of the bank's FP&A team, providing financial planning and analysis support to the bank's core business units: Lending, Retail Banking & Deposits, and Treasury Management. This role is central to the monthly financial close, forecasting, and business performance processes that keep leadership informed and the institution on plan. A defining characteristic of this role is its operational versatility. The analyst is expected to function simultaneously as a capable strategic thinker — able to surface insights, flag risks, and communicate performance narratives to senior leaders — and as a productive individual contributor who executes high-volume analytical and reporting work, increasingly with the support of AI tooling. The ideal candidate moves comfortably between directing analysis and doing it, without requiring close supervision at either level.Business Unit CoverageLending: Support financial performance analysis across commercial, consumer, and mortgage lending portfolios.Retail Banking & Deposits: Partner with retail leadership on deposit performance, customer economics, and branch profitability.Treasury Management: A customer-facing, fee-generating line of business — not the corporate treasury function. Treasury Management delivers the products and services that help commercial and small-business clients run their day-to-day finances: managing accounts, moving and collecting payments, and optimizing working capital.Key ResponsibilitiesMonthly Reporting & Financial Close: Prepare monthly divisional financial packages for the Banking Division, including P&L, variance analysis, and executive commentary. Own the month-end close reporting calendar across all three business units, coordinating with accounting and business line partners. Build and maintain management reporting templates, dashboards, and recurring deliverables. Translate financial results into concise narratives that explain drivers, risks, and trends to non-financial stakeholders. Identify and resolve data discrepancies between source systems and financial statements.Forecasting & Budgeting: Lead the FP&A contribution to annual budgeting and multi-year planning cycles for all three business units. Maintain rolling forecast models that incorporate rate environment shifts, volume trends, and strategic initiatives. Update balance sheet and income statement projections monthly based on actuals, pipeline data, and management assumptions. Support scenario and sensitivity modeling for strategic decisions such as rate changes, product launches, or M&A activity. Prepare forecast packages and presentations for the CFO, executive leadership, and Board-level reporting.Business Partnering & Insight Generation: Act as the primary FP&A point of contact for business unit leaders, providing proactive financial analysis, not just reactive reporting. Develop insights from financial data that support operational decision-making — identifying growth levers, cost pressures, or performance anomalies. Present findings clearly in both written and verbal formats tailored to the audience. Participate in business reviews, strategic planning sessions, and cross-functional projects as the finance voice for the Banking Division.AI-Assisted Analysis & Workflow Efficiency: Leverage AI tools (including large language models, automation platforms, and intelligent analytics) to accelerate reporting, modeling, and insight production. Design and refine AI-assisted workflows to improve the throughput and consistency of recurring FP&A deliverables. Maintain strong judgment about when AI output requires human review, validation, or escalation — functioning as an editor and quality controller of AI-generated work. Champion productivity improvements within the FP&A team through process automation and tool adoption.Data Integrity & Systems: Maintain and improve financial models, ensuring version control, documentation, and auditability. Work with data and technology teams to improve data quality, source reliability, and system integration. Support ongoing improvements to the FP&A technology stack (e.g., Workday Adaptive, Anaplan, Essbase, or similar EPM platforms).Key PartnersBank CFO: Senior finance leader for the bank; primary internal client for divisional reporting, forecasting, and performance insights.Chief Banking Officer: Executive accountable for the overall banking business; relies on accurate, well-framed financial analysis to steer strategy across the lending, deposit, and treasury management lines.Community Bank Leadership (Markets & Regionals): Market presidents and regional leaders who manage local banking performance. Primary audience for the President's Books and scorecards used to monitor results and make decisions.Enterprise CFO: Top finance executive for the broader organization; consumes divisional results as part of consolidated enterprise reporting and planning.FP&A Group: The analyst's home team. Collaborates on close, forecasting, budgeting, model standards, and shared reporting infrastructure; source of peer review and escalation.Line of Business Leads & Senior Leaders: Heads and senior leaders of Lending, Retail Banking & Deposits, and Treasury Management; day-to-day business partners who rely on this role for performance analysis and planning support.Key Artifacts & DeliverablesPresident's Books: A holistic, consolidated package that gives community bank leadership the full picture of the reports, metrics, and information they need to stay informed and make decisions. Combines financial results, business unit performance, and key narratives into a single executive resource.Balanced Scorecards: Performance scorecards for the bank's business units that track results against goals across financial and operational dimensions. Used to monitor progress, highlight variances, and drive accountability.Monthly Reporting Package: The divisional month-end financial package — P&L, variance analysis, and executive commentary across Lending, Retail Banking & Deposits, and Treasury Management.Forecast & Budget Packages: Rolling forecast updates and annual budget materials for the Banking Division, including assumptions, scenario views, and presentation-ready summaries for the CFO and leadership.Business Unit Performance Reviews: Recurring deep-dive analyses for individual business units, surfacing drivers, trends, and opportunities to support line-of-business decision-making.Role Profile: Dual-Mode Operating ModelThis role is designed to operate effectively at two distinct levels — often within the same week or the same day.Strategic Layer: Presenting to the CFO on deposit margin compression. Advising the Lending head on how rate assumptions shift the 2026 NII forecast. Flagging a liquidity trend before it becomes a Board-level concern.Execution Layer: Building the monthly reporting package from scratch. Updating forecast models after an interest rate decision. Producing and quality-checking AI-assisted output before it reaches a stakeholder.Competency FrameworkEach competency is rated on a 1–5 scale: 1 = not needed, 2 = basic awareness, 3 = working proficiency, 4 = advanced, 5 = mastery.Competency Rating (1–5)Financial Modeling & Forecasting: 5Self-Direction & Ownership: 4Business Communication & Storytelling: 3Data Analysis & Visualization: 4AI Tool Proficiency: 3Problem Solving & Insight Generation: 4Banking Product Knowledge: 2Stakeholder & Partner Management: 3Technical Systems (EPM /BI): 2Qualifications RequiredBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field3–6 years of FP&A experience, preferably in financial services or bankingDirect experience supporting multiple business units or product linesStrong financial modeling skills in Excel; familiarity with EPM toolsDemonstrated ability to prepare and present executive-level financial packagesWorking knowledge of banking fundamentals: NII, net interest margin, deposit pricing, loan loss provisioningComfortable working in a fast-paced environment with hard monthly deadlinesPreferredExperience in a regional bank, community bank, or financial holding companyExposure to all three coverage areas: lending, retail/deposits, and treasuryCFA, CPA, or FP&A certification (AFP)Experience with AI-assisted financial workflows or prompt engineering for analytical tasksFamiliarity with regulatory reporting environments (call reports, FDIC, OCC)Graduate degree in Finance, MBA, or related disciplineExperience analyzing fee-based or transaction-driven product lines (e.g., treasury management, payments, cash management)Technology & ToolsMicrosoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)EPM platform (Accounting systems, Financial Management systems)Core banking and data warehouse systemsAI productivity tools (LLM platforms, automation software)
