SUMMARY/SCOPE: This position participates in abroad range of activities that support the mission, vision, core values andpurposes of the school of nursing and its consortiumpartners. Faculty members at HSU are responsible and accountable forensuring the attainment of the goals, mission, and vision of the school ofnursing and its consortium partners. Successful performance of thisrole requires experience with curriculum development, mapping of outcomes,excellent classroom, clinical and professional proficiency, management,leadership, organizational aptitude, and excellent interpersonal communication.In addition, faculty are accountable and responsible for ensuring programcompliance with the standards and guidelines set forth by the Texas Board ofNursing and other accrediting agencies. Ultimately, the continuedpursuit of academic excellence in all settings is central to thisrole. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean/FoundingDirector of Nursing Education unless otherwise specified in supplemental jobdescription. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Inform the Associate Dean/FoundingDirector of Nursing Education of interested faculty and potential clinicalaffiliations to prepare for contingencies in faculty appointments and clinicalagency experiences. Follow the organizational chainof command for reporting problems in the HSU School of Nursing Acquire and demonstrateproficiency in curriculum development and curriculum mapping; program andcourse development including program and course outcomes; test development withalternative formats, blueprint development, and test analysis. Participate in curriculum andprogram development. Participate, as needed, inproviding solutions for problems in the HSU School of Nursing. Utilize aggregate data from theevaluation of curriculum, faculty, and student evaluation of teaching-learningpractices to inform decisions that facilitate the achievement of studentoutcomes to foster program improvement. Respond appropriately to anannual evaluation conference with the Associate Dean/Founding Director ofNursing Education. Provide the materials anddocumentation required to accompany a recommendation for promotion at timesdesignated in specific contracts. Actively participate inreviewing and screening the school's library holdings and educational resourceswhile recommending the most appropriate collection to meet program outcomes. Engage in appropriate andrequired faculty development activities that foster achievement of programoutcomes and development of the HSU School of Nursing. Acquaint nursing majors withcareer opportunities and opportunities for graduate study. Participate in external andinternal recruitment activities for the HSU School of Nursing. Maintain accuraterecords/documents and submit timely reports.
Records/documents include butare not limited to syllabi, grades, and office hours. Submit all assigned coursegrades on the learning management platform by the identified due datethroughout the semester. Devote primary efforts forcompletion of faculty contractual responsibilities, except during vacationperiods and/or excused periods under the terms of contract. Schedule, announce, post, andmaintain office hours according to HSU School of Nursing policy to allow students time for formal and informalcontact that may include but is not limited to advising, mentoring andremediation. Maintain up-to-date test banksutilizing the TXBON recommendations for alternate formats in the HSU School ofNursing platforms. Strive to ensure the highestlevel of faculty and student morale within the school through harmonious,professional, collegial, and productive working relationships among colleaguesand students, both within the school and the consortium institutions at large. Fulfill all classroom andclinical duties essential to the role of faculty, as assigned, by the AssociateDean/Founding Director of Nursing Education and according to contractrequirements.
Attend faculty meetings andparticipate in the process of faculty governance within Hardin-SimmonsUniversity (HSU). Participate in assignedcommittees by regular attendance and completion of assigned responsibilities. Be familiar with theaccreditation requirements of the Texas Board of Nursing (TXBON rule 215.7 (c),Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and the Southern Associationof Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Participate in preparation forand in meetings of the accreditation agencies and TXBON visits. Know and uphold the policies inthe universities' Undergraduate/Graduate Catalogs, HSU School of Nursing Studentand Faculty Handbook(s).
Participate in the advising, mentoringand remediation of students. Participate in budget planningprocess. Make recommendations regardingequipment, computer and simulation labs, technology, software, and supplies. Develop, disseminate, andupdate syllabus according to program requirements. Create and maintain courses inthe learning management system.
