Registered Nurse In Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 1 year recent ICU experience License: Valid state nursing license (pending applications accepted) Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience in caring for high acuity patients - Ability to manage multiple systems organ failure - Competency in cardiac monitoring and emergency response Description: Holidays are required. No time off is allowed in the first two weeks of the assignment. Offering up to 26 weeks, with options for 36 or 48 hours per week. All requests for time off must be presented prior to the offer. Requests received after the offer must be discussed with management on-site. Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4 based on acuity. The unit cares for both PCU and ICU patients. PCU and general medicine/transfer status can have a 4:1 group based on acuity. Ventilator patients are managed in a 2:1 ratio. High acuity cases, including CRRT or cooling therapies, are handled in a 1:1 group. Weekend shifts are required, including every other weekend. Floating to other ICU and medical-surgical units is necessary. Agency nurses will float in rotation with staff nurses to medical-surgical units. Typical nurse to patient ratios in medical-surgical areas are approximately 1:5 to 1:7. Common patient diagnoses include COPD, respiratory failure, heart failure, and drug overdoses. Special procedures performed include CRRT, A-line placement, CVC placement, and tracheostomy. Required skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, and blood product administration. Knowledge of ventilatory management, including BiPAP and CPAP, is essential. The unit averages three ventilator patients daily. Patients may remain in ICU care even if acuity levels drop. Candidates should be familiar with infection prevention and isolation precautions. Modules are non-billable and will be completed during the onboarding process.
