Assistant Attorney General (Antitrust)

The Nebraska Attorney General's Office is currently seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Attorney General to serve as the primary antitrust attorney in the Consumer Protection Bureau. The Nebraska Department of Justice is one of the strongest public interest law offices in the country, and the Consumer Protection Bureau is at the heart of that work, enforcing state and federal laws against deceptive, fraudulent, and unfair business practices, and holding broad enforcement authority over antitrust and monopolistic activities, including price-fixing, bid rigging, and unlawful monopolization. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced antitrust attorney to do consequential enforcement work on behalf of Nebraska consumers and businesses. Responsibilities Investigate potential violations of state and federal antitrust laws, including monopolization, price‑fixing, bid rigging, market allocation schemes, and other anticompetitive conduct. Conduct civil antitrust litigation from initiation through resolution, including investigation, civil investigative demands, discovery, depositions, motions practice, hearings, and trial. Review proposed mergers and acquisitions to assess competitive impact and advise on enforcement options. Draft complaints, motions, briefs, civil investigative demands, consent decrees, and other legal documents in antitrust and consumer protection matters. Perform legal research and prepare written analyses on complex antitrust and consumer protection issues. Advise Bureau leadership and the Attorney General on matters involving antitrust law, market competition, and consumer protection enforcement. Handle select consumer protection matters involving deceptive trade practices and unfair business practices as assigned. Qualifications Graduation from an ABA‑accredited law school. Licensed to practice law in Nebraska, or a clear ability to be licensed in Nebraska by motion. Minimum of three years of experience in antitrust law, including mergers, anticompetition counseling, litigation, or regulatory practice in a private law firm, government agency, or enforcement body, or a minimum of three years of litigation experience that includes antitrust matters. Excellent legal research and writing skills and strong professional judgment. Demonstrated work ethic, initiative, and commitment to public service. Required Skills Experience in state or federal antitrust enforcement. Familiarity with merger review, civil investigative demand practice, or multimarket investigation. Economics background or experience conducting economic analysis. Judicial clerkship experience. Other A criminal history and abuse background check will be conducted prior to an offer of employment.
