The Cost Accounting Manager is a hands-on manufacturing finance leader responsible for building, implementing, and managing the cost accounting and inventory accounting framework for URGO Medical North America's manufacturing operation. This role will establish the processes, controls, standard-costing methodology, ERP disciplines, reporting routines, and governance required to support startup, validation, operational ramp-up, and sustained growth.

Serving as the primary accounting business partner to Manufacturing Operations, the Cost Accounting Manager will translate plant activity into accurate financial information and actionable business insight. The role will work in close partnership with FP&A, providing the cost, inventory, production, variance, capacity, and operational data required for budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, KPI development, scenario analysis, and management decision-making.

Success requires a builder mindset: the ability to create scalable processes where mature infrastructure does not yet exist, operate effectively through ambiguity, influence cross-functional partners, and maintain disciplined financial controls while the site transitions from startup into routine commercial operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of cost accounting and inventory accounting processes for manufacturing facility, establishing scalable practices that can mature with production volume and organizational growth.
• Build standard-costing architecture, product cost structures, manufacturing accounting procedures, controls, reporting cadence, and documentation from the ground up.
• Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Quality, IT, and Finance to define end-to-end transaction flows, ownership, master-data requirements, and accounting controls.
• Support ERP configuration, testing, data readiness, and implementation activities related to product costing, inventory, production reporting, bills of materials, routings, work centers, overhead application, and manufacturing transactions.
• Establish practical close, reconciliation, inventory, variance-review, and management-reporting routines that support operations.
• Identify risks, gaps, and process inefficiencies early and implement sustainable solutions rather than temporary workarounds.

Cost Accounting and Inventory Management

• Develop, implement, and maintain standard costing methodologies for manufactured products, including raw materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead, yields, and other relevant cost components.
• Own product cost structures and support periodic review of bills of materials, routings, labor standards, overhead rates, and cost standards in partnership with Operations and Supply Chain.
• Analyze manufacturing variances including material usage and price, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, yield loss, scrap, rework, and other production-cost drivers; investigate root causes with operational partners.
• Ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost of goods sold accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies.
• Manage inventory accounting activities including reconciliations, reserves, excess and obsolete analysis, cycle-count and physical-inventory support, adjustments, and inventory reporting.
• Investigate production- and inventory-related discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions with appropriate business owners.

FP&A Partnership and Decision Support

• Act as the manufacturing-cost subject matter partner to FP&A, ensuring planning and forecasting models are grounded in reliable product-cost, production, inventory, labor, and overhead data.
• Partner with FP&A to develop manufacturing KPIs, dashboards, operating metrics, cost-center reporting, and management views that connect financial outcomes to operational drivers.
• Provide costing, inventory, volume, mix, yield, scrap, labor-efficiency, overhead-utilization, and capacity insights to support annual budgets, rolling forecasts, long-range plans, and scenario analysis.
• Collaborate with FP&A and Operations on business cases, capital investments, process improvements, productivity initiatives, sourcing decisions, and other operational opportunities.
• Explain manufacturing financial performance clearly to non-finance leaders and help convert variance analysis into practical actions.
• Ensure a disciplined handoff of actuals and operational insights to FP&A so planning assumptions can be updated quickly as the greenfield site ramps.

Month-End Close, Reporting, and Controls

• Lead month-end close activities for inventory, manufacturing costs, cost of goods sold, reserves, and related balance-sheet and income-statement accounts.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, manufacturing cost reports, and variance analyses; ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Establish and maintain strong internal controls over inventory, costing, production transactions, master data, and manufacturing accounting processes.
• Document key accounting processes, procedures, control activities, ownership, and evidence requirements to support consistent execution and audit readiness.
• Support internal and external audit activities related to inventory, manufacturing accounting, costing, and controls, including preparation of supporting documentation and remediation of findings.
• Monitor compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and inventory-control procedures and recommend improvements as the operation evolves.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Serve as the primary accounting business partner for Manufacturing Operations and a key finance partner to Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, IT, and FP&A.
• Build strong working relationships with plant and corporate stakeholders and create clear accountability for financial and operational data quality.
• Coach business partners on cost drivers, inventory impacts, transaction discipline, and the financial consequences of operating decisions.
• Promote a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, transparency, and data-driven decision-making.
• Perform other finance and accounting responsibilities as needed to support plant startup, operational readiness, and business growth.

Requirements

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Minimum five years of progressive manufacturing accounting or cost accounting experience; seven or more years preferred for candidates expected to independently build processes.
• Demonstrated knowledge of standard costing, inventory accounting, manufacturing variance analysis, cost of goods sold, account reconciliations, internal controls, and month-end close.
• Hands-on experience with manufacturing ERP systems required; SAP experience, preferably S/4HANA and relevant manufacturing/costing functionality, strongly preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with reporting, analytics, or business-intelligence tools is preferred.
• Experience supporting a manufacturing, ERP implementation, or significant cost-accounting process redesign strongly preferred.
• Experience in process manufacturing and/or a regulated manufacturing environment such as medical device, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or similarly controlled industry preferred.
• Experience partnering directly with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, KPI reporting, business cases, and operational planning preferred.
• CMA or CPA certification preferred but not required.
• Ability to work on-site and support critical startup, inventory, close, and implementation activities as business needs require.

Work Environment

• Indoors in office and manufacturing environments with regular interaction on the production floor.
• Work may involve exposure to normal manufacturing noise, material-handling activity, and controlled production areas; required safety and gowning practices must be followed where applicable.
• Approximately 0-10% travel, with additional travel possible during implementation, training, or cross-site support.

Physical Demands

Primarily sedentary work with frequent computer use and data analysis. The role may require periodic walking through manufacturing and warehouse areas, standing during inventory activities, and occasional lifting or movement of light office materials up to 10 pounds. The employee must have the visual acuity and dexterity required to review detailed financial information, operate standard office equipment, and work extensively at a computer.
