About the Role Plymouth is growing its HR organization to support company growth. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist is a critical operational role supporting a workforce of nearly 400 employees across multiple states. This role reports to the HR Director of People Operations, Systems & Culture and works closely with Finance and the broader HR team. This is a detail-oriented and deadline-driven role for someone who takes payroll accuracy and benefits administration seriously. You will be the primary point of contact for employees and managers on pay and benefits questions -- and the person who makes sure those processes run without surprises. What You Will Own Payroll End-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state workforce on a regular pay cycle Payroll compliance including wage and hour rules across multiple states New hire setup, offboarding processing and payroll changes Payroll reporting for Finance, HR and external auditors Documentation of payroll processes and ongoing improvement of procedures Benefits enrollment support, carrier coordination and open enrollment administration 401k contribution processing and support for annual audit preparation Benefits reporting for Finance, HR, external auditors, and benefit brokers Support employee education and communication efforts related to benefits Employee inquiries related to pay, deductions and benefits Leaves Administer leaves of absence for up to five employees per month on an ongoing basis. What Success Looks Like in Year One Payroll runs accurately and on time every cycle with no recurring errors Payroll processes are documented and could be followed by someone new 401k audit support is organized and complete without last-minute scrambles Benefits administration is running proactively with vendors on schedule Employee payroll and benefits questions are resolved quickly and with confidence Benefits programs remain competitive, well-communicated and cost-effective What You Bring Three or more years of payroll processing experience in a multi-state environment Working knowledge of multi-state wage and hour law including meal and rest period requirements Experience with a payroll platform such as Workday, ADP or Paylocity Three or more years of benefits administration experience including open enrollment coordination Strong attention to detail and a process-oriented mindset Ability to handle confidential information with discretion Clear communication skills for responding to employee questions Experience supporting a 401k audit is a strong plus Experienced with quarterly and annual payroll taxes, W-2 administration (configuration) High level of discretion, judgment and integrity Process-oriented and deadline-driven mindset Collaborative partnership with HR, Finance and business leaders Clear and confident communication with employees and managers Why This Role Plymouth's payroll function has historically required significant time from senior HR staff. This hire will take ownership of the day-to-day so that senior capacity can be redirected toward strategic work.
