Registered Nurse - Endoscopy

The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The RN is expected to perform duties according to established standards of care and the core values established by the Division of Nursing. Reports to assigned Unit Director. Roles and Responsibilities Assess patients with a variety of needs. Use a person-centered care approach in the development of care, and effectively prioritize patient needs that are both expected and unanticipated. Demonstrate strong communication skills to interact with other health care professionals and patients. Demonstrate competence and resourcefulness in the implementation of the technical skills required to care for the patient. Demonstrates initiative in remaining current in the organization and department policies, procedures, and standards. Evaluate effectiveness of care giving, show follow through on delivery, demonstrate critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, proactively address actual and potential problems, and execute compliant clinical documentation. Assist with educating patients and families and serve as a resource on department standards for patient care. This is a full-time position that includes on‑call coverage: typical schedule - 1 night a week, 1 weekend a month. The unit is staffed Monday-Friday with 8- or 10-hour shift options ranging from 6:15 am to 6:00 pm. Required Skills and Experience Current NYS Registered Nursing license. 1 year of Endoscopy RN preferred. Must obtain BLS during introductory period. Must obtain ACLS certification prior to completion of the introductory period. Physical Demands Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., computer keyboard use); must be able to lift and carry light loads up to 40 lbs, incl. boxes, equipment, IV solutions. Must stoop and kneel to pick up items from the floor, remove and replace items on lower shelves, and file documents in lower drawers. Must sit, walk, or stand for long periods of time and must physically operate the equipment used for the job.
