NDDOT Starting Salary for Mechanic III: $5,354 per month NDDOT Starting Salary for Mechanic II: $4,819 per month NDDOT Starting Salary for Mechanic I: $4,337 per month

Heavy Truck and Equipment Repair: Perform complete engine repairs and overhauls. Perform engine tune-ups (replace injectors, adjust valves, etc.). Perform drive train repairs (adjust, replace clutch, repair transmissions and differentials). Diagnose and repair hydraulic and air brake problems (valves, chambers, brake shoes, drum and lines). Diagnose and repair exhaust, cooling and AC systems. Repair chassis and suspension systems. Diagnose and repair electronic and electrical systems. Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems. Order parts, restock parts, and organize. Keep track of and reorder hydraulic parts, cylinders, hose and fitting as needed. Welding/Fabricating: Perform major and minor welding repair on trucks and shop equipment. Weld and Fabricate parts while operating shop equipment. Design and Construct welding projects throughout the district. Light duty vehicle repairs: Engine repairs and tune-ups. Drive train, chassis and suspension, diagnose and repairs. Brake overhauls and repairs. Diagnose and repair electronic and electrical problems. Repair heating and air conditioning problems. Install equipment on new vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position as a Mechanic III, you must have a Class B Driver License, completed a two-year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology, and 2 years of work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity as those listed in the summary of work. Completion of a three-year master technology program and one year of work experience performing duties listed in the summary of work can substitute for the 2-year curriculum and 2 years of experience. To be considered for this position as a Mechanic II, you must have, at minimum, a Class A permit by the first day of employment, completed a two-year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology. The employee will then have 12 months to take the behind-the-wheel exam and get the class A driver's license with air brakes and with a cargo-tank endorsement. The district will make the equipment available for the employee to practice driving during this time. As a Mechanic I, you must have a high school diploma or GED, and a valid Class D Drivers license. Applies to all levels: Work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity to those to be performed on vehicles and equipment like those to be serviced may be substituted for the educational requirement of the basis of one year of work experience for one year of education. Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) reflecting the required abilities for this position may be substituted for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis. Related MOS codes include Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (91B), Mission Generation Vehicular Equipment Maintenance (2T3X1). Successful applicant must provide required tools on the date of hire. List of required tools is available from any district office. Position may require work after hours, on weekends, and holidays during road and weather emergencies; demonstrated ability to function around vehicular and maintenance traffic. Position requires knowledge of and be capable of welding. May be required to plow snow. Safety training will be provided. As determined by the district engineer or division director, employees will at times be required to report to work within 30 minutes in situations involving emergency, storm, or public safety concerns. Employees with residence outside the 30 minute requirement must make appropriate arrangements to make themselves available during such conditions. Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, job function testing, reference check and driving records check.
